Get some perspective!
- Vicki (5th Jun 2007 - 19:00:45)

Perhaps we should re-name this site Sainsburys Talkback! Please can we change the record. The store is probably here to stay.....live with it! In the end this site and the constant twittering is the best publicity ever.... an absolute gift horse to any PR department! Surely there are far more important issues that can be given air time? If the world is that anti, vote with your feet...or money and shop else where. When the village had no supermarket I am sure people found other ways to get to Tesco!!!!!!

The perspective is ... a very large store bang in the middle of the village generating a number of issues for different people (perceived or otherwise). If you are not concerned about those affected it is very easy to stick your head in the sand. A large number if posts on the subject presumbly equates to a degree of interest.

I dont think that Sainsburys see this as very good PR for themselves - otherwise they would not have called a meeting for a District Councillor and Liphook shop owners to discuss issues!!

Liz,
I don't have a axe to grind with those who have a genuine greivance. I appreciate that a large store in the middle of the village presents issues for some and is actually a life line for others. My point was that the store is unlikely to leave and surely our energy as a community is best spent by working around these issues, rather than complaining. I bet many of those who are unhappy with it's presence still shop there! Small businesses are affected by larger stores, that is an undeniable fact, but large stores do still add value to a community. No offence was meant!

I meant that free publicity is generated on this site. If the store is actively seeking discussion with local stores that has to be a positive step!

Exactly!!!!! Why do you think I and others have been doing it. Just for the hell of it. Pressure, has to be applied in a number of ways, this is only one, as i have always said. No one knows the outcome of the meeting, but at least we now have one!!

Funny thing, this sainsburys issue only seems to be opened again by people who complain about it being covered so much??? I would not have joined in again, if your posting wasn't here!! I too feel that so far the job is done, and find it un-necessary at this point to explain any more. I will leave that the the Herald!!

I would not suggest that if anyone else has issues with the store i.e. lack of stock, ect that they stop too. That is their right.

Vicky
You didn't offend me but i don't think the issues are as cut and dried as you seem to believe. I don't think there is a campaign to oust Sainsbury's from the village and I would suggest that most people who complain about certain aspects do shop in the store and why not? Particularly as there is now no alternative. I think a company the size of Sainsbury's does have certain responsibilities and I think delivering on its promises would be a good start.

I seem to remember that not-so-very-long-ago it was fashionable to decry South West Trains and gypsies.

Perhaps there is just nothing else happening that is of general interest.

I say bring back public floggings. Now that would be a proper spectacle.

Steven,
Maybe Sainsburys would let us use their car park for the public floggings. Watch the flogging then pop in and spend some Necter points.

Not much room in the car park - maybe tie them to the empty shelves?

Gen

I haven't been in there to shop for donkeys years - do they really have that many empty shelves that i keep hearing about???

- sammy (6th Jun 2007 - 22:34:09)

re gen;
As a neutral from outside liphook but regularly visits this website and family in liphook, do you not think the empty shelves could be due to the place being heaving with customers? It certainly has been the last few times i have taken my grandparents shopping there!

As a parent with 2 young kids I am pretty happy that there is a big supermarket in the area.
I don't have any complaints at all about Sainsbury's except occasionaly their shelves for some products are empty, but even that has improved since the store reopened.

Re: Get some perspective!
- gen (7th Jun 2007 - 22:44:42)

I think it's less to do with heaving with customers than inefficiency on the part of the ordering department. To get there on a Saturday and find no red top milk, one and a half freezers out of action, no Ryvita, no large packs of my favourite cereal, no small packs of my preferred toilet rolls... my list goes on and on.
I have rarely found that to be the case in Tescos and don't think I've noticed it in Waitrose either. But of course, those stores have to keep their standards up or they lose business to their competitors.
Competition is healthy for us, not so healthy for them.
