New Store opening
- Sue W (5th Jun 2007 - 08:37:18)
Hi,
Just noticed the new advert for Country Wide on this site - Gen you may not be able to get pictures, but very much like their web site. Opening 30 June - great, at least it won't be boarded up for much longer.

Whereabouts is the info? Not under shops?
[editor - on the right handside of this and every page!]

Editor,
Perhaps Gen needs glasses!!. Only teasing. I am still confused with your lack of pics, and on the left the 5th sujbect on my screen isn't 'New local shops'. Are the screens different on other systems??

Sue - the 5th UNDER NEW local shps is 'photos'.
Ed - what do you mean 'on the right' - I'm getting really confused - there is NOTHING on the right of this page! Or is this something else I can't see?
[editor - to the right of this page are all the paid for adverts; Liphook Travel, Countrywide; L-drive; fast.co.uk; Northover's; Ford Car Hire; Keats; Barons BMW; Urban Home; Palls - don't you see them ?]

Gen,
Have you got a very narrow view of the site?. Try moving out the side, this widens the viewing screen, I have tried to reduce mine, and guess what the adverts on the RIGHT cant be seen. Worth a try.

Sue, thanks for the suggestion, I'm afraid it is more complicated than that. There is obviously something not ticked, or needing to be unticked, somewhere in my set-up - except that I don't knopw what it is! Or where to look. It is really odd that it is just to do with this website.

Gen,
How do you know it works on ALL other sites, if you have problems seeing pictures they wont be there - so you wouldn't know??? Bit like the adverts on the right!

Well, I think if there is a webpage that gives a scroll for seeing photos 1-13 and there is a blank space where the pictures should be, even a bear with very little brain like me would know they're missing something...

Gen,
It wasn't a criticism of your intelligence, but an observation, the ads on the right have no tools or wording to suggest they are there - you only found out by accident, what I meant was you could be missing out on a number of things - not listed on more sites than this.

Sue - I didn't take offence, I have a sometimes misplaced sense of humour that gets me into trouble. I think I know you well enough from these pages to know that you are never malicious...

Gen,
I have an evil sence of humour!!. And can see why you would say such a thing, most posters on the 'S' subject think I am exactly that!! It's such a shame most 'do not know' me at all. I found it so funny that you could not see the adverts on the right, and said it must only be a problem with this site. When you are probably not seeing something that is there on others!! but you don't know it there - because you cant see it............

I have just ckicked the link to the store and am getting quite excited about the groovy wellies!!!
I think this is just the sort of thing to breathe new life into station Road too. Lots of inquisitive new customers looking around with money in their pockets......
Maybe all the other shops should get some flyers printed to coincide with the 'launch' informing people of what you sell etc.? Only a thought?

Purplecurly
Good idea about flyers, posters for the new shop opening, I have played around with a few on computer, and in the past have pinned some on carpet baggers, window and exteria wall - unfortunately someone kept removing them!!.
I hope they bring a much more 'open' minded kinda shopper, one that appreciates ALL that liphook has to offer!!

We at the hardware/housewares, have had such support over the pending closure of the shop, that sales are still above expected, with that in mind, and the new store opening we will remove the sign from the window, in the hope that it will not dampen station road further, and show willing for our new neighbour. Once they have opened, we will be able to gauge the situation better. Even though the sign has had the 'pull' and we still have stock to sell, it will be more of a 'Stock Clearance'.
I hope we and others who stock some of the same products that this new company do, can still hold onto our regulars, that way we should all benefit

The only trouble with a long thread is that, as it lengthens day by day, you tend to scroll quickly past the early ones to see if there's anything new and forgetthe early ones.
30th of June, that's not too far away now.
Mind you, M&S said they were going to open a few weeks before they actually did, many a slip twixt...
Interesting - shall keep a sharp look-out

SUE
1) have you been in sainsburys?
2) DO you shop there?
I feel that your taking the mick sometimes. you go on about other businesses but sometimes I feel that your going on and on and on...
instead of trying to battle sainsburys try working with them....
you say stuff yet you proberly havent been in there so how would you be able to comment on that.
Yes we know that your business is suffering but screaming about it digging only makes you look silly. People do support local shops, but times changing people dont want to waste hours doing their shopping when they can do it in one shop quicker. I try and use local shops but look at the bigger picutre
I am fed up of hearing you telling us how bad sainsburys are.... I do shop in there sometimes yes but time saving, I cant buy local produce, bread, milk, at 8pm at night when I get home.

As I understand it Sue's complaint seems to be that Sainsbury's initial promise to the village (and I thought some of it was part of the original planning permission but I can't be sure) was they would stick mostly to foodstuffs and not introduce lines which would be directly in competiton with existing non-food shops in the village. They do not appear to have kept to that promise and Sue appears to have a valid complaint. While a super giant like Sainsbury's can easilty change their lines of stock it is far more difficult for a small business to do so. As fpr "work with Sainbury's" well its a nice idea - perhaps Sue can go and have a nice little chat and persude them to more back to minimal non food/grocery items. Can you really see that working? As I'm sure you are aware this is not just an issue in Liphook.
