Positive

Lets bring the positive back to this forum......
Why should people move to Liphook - what does it have to offer? If people are looking to move to Liphook and they look at this forum all they will see is grumbles about Sainsburys.
Let them see the good side of Liphook.

Liphook offers a huge sense of community that I really appreciate. It has a FANTASTIC U3A - over 50's with time on their hands and intelligence, people who are still learning about new things and are not content to sit and vegetate in an armchair in front of the fire. It has a great golf club - a course that is the envy of golfers everywhere.
All the people I have met since I moved here have been kind, welcoming and extremely friendly.
It has an incredible carnival - so well done, as good as anything Notting Hill has to offer.
It has a station with hourly trains to London - although why the only time when there isn't a train back from Guildford is 10.30 pm - knocking on the head any idea of popping into Guildford for an evening meal or the cinema - such a shame, because it means taking the car when it shouldn'd be necessary.
So come to live in Liphook, you won't regret it!

... and excellent schools (Infant, Junior and Bohunt), good takeaways, Sainsburys (!), wonderful countryside, easy access to the A3, Hollycombe steam collection, good shopping in Guildford and Portsmouth/Southsea, excellent local shops (!!), good weather, friendly churches, etc, etc
rob.
PS - I lied about the weather.

Difficult one considering that the main landmarks ARE Sainsburys and another old Talkback favourite, The Anchor with its lovely signs. And of course there's the traffic problems and the over-development, neither of which can be denied or ignored as both have removed a lot of the character of the place over the years. All of these have been guest stars on Talkback for the wrong reasons.
But Liphook is surrounded by some decent countryside and is commutable. It has an interesting history and community spirit is high.

Gen - there is a 10.33pm train from Guildford arriving at Liphook at 23.04pm.This is Monday to Friday and weekends. You would have to change at Haslemere though and jump on the slow train.

OMG I REALLY hate that ten minute wait at Haslemere!!!!
I really feel like a second class citizen when I see all the more important people whizzing past me as I wait, bored to death and bum num.

Yes, I just noticed that there is now a 10.33 train - I'm sure it wasn't there last winter, although perhaps i hadn't got the hang of the timetable. Is it a dangerous place to wait, Haslemere?

Gen
You dont wait at all. When you get to Haslemere you cross over the bridge and board the slow train which leaves a couple of minutes later.
I wouldn't classify it as dangerous no.

I live in Haslemere and it's not dangerous - the station has the usual help points if you need them as well as quite a busy 24 taxi rank.
Personally i've never had a problem there

Thanks, we'll give it a try. Haven't quite got into the train mode yet, but sure we will - it's one of the reasons we moved here.
