Trees
- liz (25th May 2007 - 09:54:51)
According to the Liphook Herald there is a bit of a 'discussion' going on regarding who should pay for the damage to the house in the Midhurst Road caused by a fallen tree. Apparently Sainsbury's own the tree and have done nothing as they have not yet recieved a formal notification from Hyde Housing Association -despite claiming to be a 'good neighbour'. (!)
Hyde Housing on the other hand appear to have sold wood from the tree which they say they don't own. A real muddle all round and considerable dragging of feet while the only people to suffer are the family who lived in the house who have been in temporary accomodation since January.
Meanwhile I hope that whoever is deemed responsible for 'managing' the remaining trees does just that and 'manages' those that are still healthy, without just making a block decision that it would be cheaper to cut down the whole lot.

Liz,
I dont want this to sound another 'attack Sainsburys', but they do seem to have caused rather a lot of hassle since arriving here. Was it not so long ago that their was a smiliar situation with the 'donated' scout & Guide hut? There is a lot of Red tape surrounding these situations, which given their skilled legal teams should not occur.
I hope that the situation is soon sorted out for the unfortunate family - but why does it take a report from the newpaper to raise awareness. Because publicity works best perhaps??

I wonder whether the developers asked the Council if the trees could be pruned when they constructed the houses? If they did ask, and were refused, then perhaps the Council could be held responsible?

but did they not provide liphook with a community centre ie the millennium hall which also has a police station and gives groups like the scouts somewhere to meet? cause a lot of trouble i hear you say? where would liphook be without it? just a dead end town with nothing going on for it, very low house prices, a high amount of unemployed teenagers and nowhere to go shopping.

Phil,
Are we talking about the same LIPHOOK? Perhaps you were not around pre-Sainsbury's?

Gen
Not sure it has anything to do with the council if the trees belong to Sainsburys.

Phil,
I think we liked our liphook before sainsburys turned up and built more houses that our schools, doctors and dentists cant cater properly for . It was a village then, not a town where nobody knows who anyone is .
As for the hall, police station and green WOW aint we lucky!!

Couldn't agree more Oscar, that old village of Liphook has been destroyed. We now have a Sainsburys driven eyesore where half the population of housing is owned by London commuters who want to be able to tell their work mates that they live in the country and have no idea what Liphook was like prior to Sainsburys opening.
It reminds me of Man Utd fans who think that football only started when the Premiership was formed as most of em have a selected memory prior to 1990.
