Sainsburys
- Andy Wilson (10th May 2007 - 11:59:25)

People moan about Sainsburys but maybe its the wrong products that people are trying to sell.

I went in there at the weekend and was surprised by the way in which the younger members of staff behaved. I asked for a item in the homeware area and they took much effort to find it for me.

Why does Sainsburys get blamed; Somerfield was going down hill for years, the leaflets that came through the door advertised items that liphook had sold out off, and I can't afford to travel to Bordon.

If the local shops get the right products at the right price then I hope they do well, business is business.

I went into the cafe earlier and had a wonderful cup of tea, nice cup of coffee with a friendly service from the ladies in there

Next time Andy try buying food in our wonderful new extended store. The extended range seems to have resulted in a cut back in the basics. Carrots, milk, beef and lamb roasting joints (except frozen) all unavailable recently. The staff are friendly and helpful but the shelf fillers left so much stuff all over the floors on Saturday evening that it must have contravened every health and safety regulation in the books.

If we all say the points that we want them to imporve on they might listen Liz u have one already:

-the shelf filling at night

-ordering more stuff in when its needed carrots etc...

I don't think Sainsbury's needs shelf filling at night - just decent management of daytime restocking.

Due to complaints from the public regarding recongestion in the town (village), I think you'll find that Sainsburys are still limited to one delivery a day, which limits the amount of goods they can receive. Not making excuses for them, its just the way it is!

Andy

What product in the homewares did you buy and how much was it?

Re: Sainsburys
- AJ (11th May 2007 - 09:45:59)

I think that they could do with more staff, they all end up on the checkouts and Are hard to find

they need more staff on the checkouts, to stop the staff that work on the main floor from being moved on there, It would be nice to walk in and find a member of staff for that area quickly instead of them being on checkouts

I nearly always agree with what you say, but ALL supermarkets shelf fill at night, and do top up throughout the day. There is much more freedom to move about, and actually less dangerous for the customers. (generally less use a store at night). I am in no way defending our Sainsbury's as so many people seem to be complaining about the store.

May I make a point that if anyone feels strongly enough they write to the Head Office, with their opinions. Don't just moan to the staff. Perhaps Head Office will get a better idea of what Liphook people think about the Bigger Better store.!!

sue

A cordless kettle and they also helped me when I purchased a TV.

The staff were very polite, and helpful and I thank them. At the end of the day they have a little job same as everyone else. To some of them that little job helps them pay to get to college etc. Just a shame that We all cant get a better deal.....

I AGREE THAT THE LOCAL SHOPS ARE MISSING OUT AND I WILL TRY AND SUPPORT THEM JUST FEEL THERES A LOT OF PEOPLE BLAMING THEM FOREVERY THING, Write to their head office, but lets make sure that we dont blame the staff, just because their the first person we see. Their address is on their website and on the back of a reciept that i have somewhere

I have never complained to the staff in Sainsbury's but did try to find a manager on Saturday evening to point out the shambles but to no avail.

liz I was in there 1/2 hour ago and there was a few managers running around. Even if you take a photo and show the manager the next day and say this is not safe...

I know what you mean I went in the other evening and there was items down both sides of the isle....

In all of my comments about Sainsburys never have I made a comment about the staff!!. In respect of your purchase you could have bought both from Hampshires, so your arguement that shops are not selling what is needed is not entirely true. Infact as in my case its the opposite. I WAS selling what was needed, and it was only down to Sainsbury's introducing 85% of my lines into their shop, that my business died. So if I had the wrong products, why are they now being purchased there - easy the psyche of a shopper is where large stores grab you. when they have got you into their store, these products are in your face, and we all know when people see it they buy it. Retail is all about numbers (foot fall), the more visit your store, the more sales you make. Small outlets cant offer the vast range of food and non foods that the big boys do, and the cheapness is reflected in the quality. My nonstick bakeware is english produced and 4x coated, so the price is relative. I think the worrying thing is that the shoppers have changed and are now in a different shop. These large stores only see you as cash machines, they want as much of your money as possible. unfortunately we dont have stores to 'offload' dead stock, so our only choice was to sell it off cheap, and consolidate into one shop.

My concerns are the same as many retailers throughout the country, if supermarkets didn't offer these products, people would still support the local traders.

As it is my day off, i did a little excercise on the purchases made March - end April last year and compared it to this. Roughly I purchased £3,500 of goods, and this year its only £1,500. nothing from my kitchen supplier at all!!. (£600 was on bedding as sainsburys until the last minute were not doing it).

May I end by saying a huge THANK YOU to all concerned customers that have popped in to offer their support and wish that we were not closing. Sales have greatly increased because poeple are now aware of the situation and are supporting us in the best possible way. THANK YOU ALL!!

SUE

I went into Sainsbury's on Saturday evening and the shelves were well stocked and the aisles were clear. A huge improvement which shows it can be done.

Re: Sainsburys

I went in there first thing sunday morning and It was nice to find mainly full shelves one or two bits that were not there but as Liz says a great improvement.... If only they can keep it that way

Oh the power of this site. It seems that your comments have been taken on board. I know that the 'stand in' manager reads this site - afterall he was the one that pointed me here in the first place. By saying they only know too well what people think of them because he reads it.!! - Great tip mr Sainsburys - gave me good coverage too!!
