OLD OSU SITE
- AJ (4th May 2007 - 21:11:32)
on the area we should have a swimming pool or a small centre that has an indoor, outdoor or both pool. This would allow the eldery, Younger parents with small children, and others to use it during the day time and then during the late afternoon, evenings after school hours give the younger generations something to do. Hopefully this would enable there to less kids on the streets both making liphook a nicer place and also cutting down on the trouble caused.
If a planning development is put in then this would be an idea item to ask for, have a local lesiure company support it and part council run. The site is close local transport.
Even bohunt could join in and have lessons for the kids, The kids do want to go swimming but all the way to Bordon, Haslemere or Petersfeild during the school time takes 10-20 mins to get there and then the same to return, they would walk there in 5-10 mins and get fit at the same time...
what do you think?

By saying a swimming pool will get troublesom teenagers off the streets - do you mean drowning them??!!
Sorry, couldn't resist - good idea though (for a swimming pool - not drowning). It seems that the new over 55's site will have a pool!!.

Further to my posting back on 11th April on the Old O.S.U.site I too suggested a Bowling Alley with various other activities and also asked about the swimming pool which I understand from many of the older residents of Liphook that fund raising was done, for a swimming pool in Liphook but nothing happened.Does anyone have an answer as to what happened to the funds and also why it did not go ahead?? I have only lived in Liphook for 18 years but am very interested in the past and present to do with Liphook. Incidently I read in the Liphook Herald this week that the Retirement Village at Bramshott Place is to include a Country Club and Swimming Pool etc. I hope when I win the lottery I will be able to retire there and make use of the facilities because it seems no -body is listening to the local village people as to what is needed to give the young families somewhere to go together - not all youngsters play football or cricket although I do know that these sports are well catered for,but there are still many who roam the streets looking for things to do. Please someone listen to the local people. Another thing employment would be provided within the village to maintain any facilities that are built.

Not sure exactly where OSU site is? I haven't been here long. Anne does seem to talk a lot of sense, and what a great way to keep old and young fit and healthy.
[editor - the OSU site was the area of land now containing Sainsburys and the new housing estate. The 'waste' land next to the Beaver Trading Estate is part of the OSU but yet to be developed]

By rights the old OSU site should have something for the people of liphook. Before the war there was a cricket green and village green given to the people of liphook by Chiltley manor, on this land. Then the army took over the Manor and it was never given back . Then as we know it was sold to sainsburys with not to much thought about liphook shops.
