Special Needs Pupils
- am (20th Sep 2012 - 20:39:58)

My son is due to move to secondary school next September, I was wondering about the provision for special needs/autism children at Bohunt. The schhol teachers paint a very rosy picture about the school but my impression is that autistic/aspergers pupils are a little bit left to their own devices. Can anybody help or advise?

I have a son with Asperger\'s and yes he is mostly left to his own devices. He has poor organisation skills. I try to set him up for the day as much as possible and speak to individual subject teachers if there has been a problem with homework being in on time or remembering to bring something from home.
Saying all this, he is very private about his Asperger\'s and the school have offered some assistance and it is taken into consideration when it needs to be. They have also offered him use of a respite room, but he does not want to use it as it will mark him as different from his peers, which he doesn\'t want.
Other wise he is progressing well and I help him at home with his organisation as much as I can.
We find staying in touch with the school is important just to remind them of his need for extra assistance.

I hope this helps. He is enjoying Bohunt and I have no regrets about choosing the school.
