Delta Fm
- Tim Richards (13th Apr 2007 - 12:30:53)
This news that Delta is move to Andover is terrible. I've advertised charity events for friends on Delta via the Sainsburys Delta Diary in the past. The people were always friendly and a nice chap gave me a tour of their studio despite it being a Saturday.
I don't always listen but if there is something importat happening I do. You can't cover local events from Andover. I haven't been to Andover for 20 years!!!!!
I only visited this site by chance today and now I am quite annoyed that we will lose our local station. I live in Farnham but often work in Liphook and Hindhead (which is when I would listen)
What can we do to stop this? Why hasn't there been publicity or a public meeting? How are they allowed to do this?

People need to write to Ofcom, write to their MP, write to the local (Tindle owned) media as well as the senior Tindle Management themselves.
People should not write to the station itself, it's not their fault. This decision has been taken 200 miles away.
Tindle radio contacts
We will still receive Delta FM on the same frequencies, the only difference is that the studio and staff will be in Andover, so not so close to real local news and events.

Im sorry too that the 'local' radio station is to go, no doubt someone has lost their job. A few at the station are constantly changing jobs - moving to other self owned stations i.e. Eagle (Basingstoke), so i am sure the key staff will follow.
Even though it will still broadcast here, i do wonder how much coverage local issues will now get. It would seem clear to me now why Delta operated a new scheme for 'key advertisers' to sign a yearly contract which would have offered 'extra' unpaid for slots when they became available. They were trying to secure revenue once the move had taken place. In the agreement you could cancel anytime you felt it not working for you. I wonder how many of these may consider this after the move, and how big an area will Delta now cover? I do not know the whole Delta range at present, but can get reception just passed Butser and Just before Farnborough!!
I wonder what their building in Bordon will become.(before some clever answer - empty)

To Sue,
The Delta FM website explains where the station broadcasts to. It says it's an area of 100,000 people which includes Haslemere, Liphook, Alton and Petersfield (and all the bits in between)
www.deltaradio.co.uk/about
www.deltaradio.co.uk/how_to_listen
Via some googling on this issue, the only link I could find was a campaign setup yesterday on the BBC Campaign website:
www.bbc.co.uk/.....
Obviously it looks like early days, but these people seem well informed. They have linked to the Liphook site (which is how I came here as I heard this news from a friend).
My daughter did work experience at Delta 5 or so years ago at their Alton studios. Although it was only a week she found it very rewarding and I even heard her read something out on-air. It's great we have a station like that locally.
If the station moves to Andover, we will lose the real local feel the station has. And you never really miss something until you've lost it.
I also believe the people who currently work on the station are local. They certainly speak as if they know the area. Will local people be recruited to Andover for DJ'ing? Or, more likely, will it be local people to Andover broadcasting to us?
