Cerveja do Brasil
- Mike Grimes (26th Mar 2007 - 01:25:20)

I noticed a palet of Brahma Cerveja at the back of Sainsburys (can I say that word) the other day at £4.99 (half price) for a pack of 12. I bought one and it is bloody gorgeous. I will go back tomorrow and buy the rest.

Eneida, is this what beer tastes like in Brasil? Or is the label that says "Brewed in the UK to the authentic Brasilian recipe" a bit of a con. I need to know because

It's only a whimsical notion
To fly down to Rio tonight
I probably won't fly down to Rio
But then again I just might

Hi Mike,

Yes indeed it is!!

Brahma Chopp, as it's called in Brazil, is the most famous and oldest beer there. I believe it was invented (if one can say that about beer) in the 19C by a German Swiss immigrant who lived in or near Blumenau in southern Brazil, where my mother's family came from. They're very fond of their beer in that part and even hold an yearly Oktoberfest!!

My grandmother used to make a delicious sweet soup using Chopp, which I loved as a little girl. I'll have to look up her recipe and make some, if you haven't bought the whole lot ;) Good old Sainsburys!!!!
