Radford Park - Conservation Volunteers
- katy (8th Mar 2007 - 18:08:45)

On behalf of Liphook in Bloom, The River Wey Trust and The Parish Council We are looking for volunteers, conservationists, bird watchers, botanists etc who may be interested in forming a group to help promote Radford Park to all areas of the community and visitors to Liphook. We have already got someone interested in leading the team but feel we need extra help to carry this new exciting project for Liphook forward.

Eventually we are hoping to have information boards on display, walks, history of the area, information on flaura and fauna etc, all available in the park.

At present we have secured funding for information boards at the entrance to the park. We have had an officer from the Deadwater Valley Trust walk round the park and are waiting for him to report back on the wildlife.

Interesting fact: Did you know that there will never be more than one nesting pair of wild ducks on the pond as they are extremely shy creatures and because the pond is round only one pair will nest there! Interesting fact number two....... Mandarin ducks nest in trees so they could be encouraged to nest by installing nest boxes!

Additionally, bat boxes, insect houses etc etc could be installed, the local schools could be involved as could the scouts and guides.

As you can see, there is a lot of work that could be done to help improve this fantastic facility on our door step which we feel is currently under used.

What do you think?

Are you up for the challenge?

If so please call Irene Ellis on 01428 723 823 for more info.

thanks

Katy
