Train users with DAB radios
- Caroline (21st Jan 2007 - 23:01:59)

Hi
Just wondering if any commuters successfully use a personal DAB radio on the train. I have recently started travelling to London again and am thinking of buying one, but I’m not sure how well it would work.
Any advise gratefully received.

Many thanks

I've tried some time ago with a DAB. It was totally useless!! It may have been the radio, I suppose; but I think it's just as likely to be the signal, which is very patchy. I wouldn't recommend it on the basis of my own experience, I'm afraid. But then FM/AM isn't much better. Get an i-pod?

Unfortunately any VHF radio, analogue (FM) or digital (DAB) is going to struggle in that environment due to the screening effect of the metal skin of the carriage and the relatively small windows. It's really no different to trying to use a portable radio in a car.
