House damaged by tree - Midhurst Road
- M Arber (19th Jan 2007 - 17:14:34)

During yesterdays storms (Thurs) a tree came down on the end house on Midhurst Road, opposite Sainsburys. Does anyone know if the family (I presume) that lived there are ok, and do they require anything? I also presume that they have been rehoused, but, hopefully when the house is repaired, do they need any help?

When a local 'disaster' such as this happens, it is time for the community to come together to help. I am happy to help if anything is required, but know nothing of the family that lives there or their circumstances. I am sure that this community would be only too willing to help if need be.

Does anyone know if there is a need for help or support of this family ?

From what I believe they were all out of the house at about 13:00 on Thursday, when the Fire service arrived shortly after the tree falling. Their 3 dogs were in the house but down stairs and unharmed.

It does look horrific and hopefully will be sorted out ASAP for them.

M.Arber's posting has prompted memories of the great storm ( not a hurricane M. Fish) when Liphook was effectively cut off for a couple of days.

Those of us with chain saws had a field day and the contents of rapidly defrosting freezers were cooked on Rayburns and dispensed to deserving soldiers from Bordon and Longmoor who set to clearing roads and lanes with heavy lifting gear.

Electricity line men from as far away as Newcastle and Belfast pitched in to restore power and, returning exhausted late on a Saturday night, were the first vehicles to enter the Square on the tail end of our carnival procession. The reception they got was tremendous, they must have thought we were all mad!
