Computer help required - need to set up modem - Mary W (4th Sep 2012 - 19:13:31) Is there anyone who can offer some computer help? My modem is playing up and I need to change it for a BT home hub that I've had for ages, waiting until it is really necessary - now! Some one who isn't going to charge an arm and a leg!

I am back online briefly, it's lasted most of the day, I only got an hour yesterday, and I have no real belief that the present situation will last. BT helpline was very good, they did a thorough test from their end and said that diagnostics said my present modem was the problem. They said they are sending me a really up-to-date home hub, which should have been delivered yesterday but hasn't arrived yet. They are supposed to be phoning me in the morning to help me set it up, although I am not sure if it will prove too much for me. Since the new modem hasn't come, unless it arrives tomorrow, I can see all these problems going on for a while yet. If I eventually get the home hub delivered and set up, I am going to need someone to connect up the two computers to work with one another, as they do at present, so will get in touch with Richard to see if he can help me, providing the cost of it all isn't beyond my means! Thank you all very much for your help. It is always very handy to have a few contact addresses for computer help, they are always needing something or other sorted out!

Re: Computer help required - need to set up modem - Jay W (7th Sep 2012 - 20:02:25) Syn-star in Petersfield sorted out a new router for us (and set it up with all our gadgets because I thought I would end up having a hissy fit if I was left to do it). They are on Checkatrade and I think give a fixed price.

I was really hoping to get a gifted amateur who knows what he's up to, to give occasinal help at affordable prices...
