CLIMATE CHANGE
- Eneida Nelson (14th Jan 2007 - 09:26:24)

Well I'm beginning to believe something very strange is actually happening to our climate after all!!

The Camelia bushes in my front garden are already flowering and it isn't even quite the middle of January....I've never known this to happen before, even when I lived in Devon which is always a little bit warmer than Hampshire.

Has anybody else got strange early flowerings in their gardens??

Hi, Eneida -

Used to have a fabulous camelia when I lived in Chiltley Way and that always flowered deep red blooms through January.

Working in my new garden this morning, red camelia has three blooms fully open and larger pink camerlia nearly ready to open.

But I agree, apart from those few days just before Christmas, it's hardly been seriously cold.

Yep my children spotted the first flowering daffodil of the year whilst out walking last weekend...

Please read my post on 29th October last year about the film 'An Inconvenient Truth' which is now out on DVD.

Oxfam are suggesting that we all hire/buy the DVD and organise a private showing for our families and friends.

I only had one reply to my posting and this was from someone who had seen the film on a plane??!!

Is it the 'head in the sand' mentality or what? Surely people would like to know what they can do to build a better future for our children and grandchildren? Please visit the following website - www.stopglobalwarming.org and join the Virtual March and become better informed.

I hope to God that anyone out there reading this will take serious note of the film and the info on this website...

Hi Sooze,

You're obviously passionate about saving the planet, and quite right too! The following link gives people an idea of the film you're talking about...it might generate more interest :)

My very personal view on carbon emission, which seems to be the main culprit, is that I wish the western world had taken Brazil seriously when it pioneered ethanol as an alternative to petrol in 1970s....just think what could have been achieved in the last 30 odd years!! Of course, the power of the U.S. petrol giants got in the way!!

However, as of now, 80% of new cars in Brazil have flex-fuel engines, which means they can run on pure ethanol or a mixture and they plan to make it 100% very soon....I believe Sweden also takes bio-fuel seriously, but the U.K. effort has been pathetic so far....I read recently that the Government are looking into the viability of bio-fuels........ :(
