Sponsorship
- Jenny (18th Dec 2006 - 15:37:16)
Next year my partner and I are going to take part in a gruelling trek up Africa's highest mountain Kilimanjaro, on 14 - 24 September 2007 with the hope of raising £6,000 for Great Ormond Street.
We will march along the less-trodden Machame route, through thick forests and moorlands to sky-scraping mountain passes with breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks, on the way to the highest point of the crater, Uhuru Peak - 5896 meters in total.
We're thrilled to be taking part in such a fantastic adventure because the money we can raise will help towards the new cardiac theatre which should help even more children in the future. The scary part is that neither of us have ever done anything like this before but we are hoping all the pain and blisters will be worth it!
If you could sponsor us please visit http://www.justgiving.com/bennettandjenny or if you would like more information, please contact us on jennyandbennett@googlemail.com.
I know this is a tough time of year to be sponsoring people but every penny does count and bring us closer to our target.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Happy Christmas!
Jen

i do wish you well but i hope that you get all the money but of more inportance , that the children get the money or the money is spent directly on them and their well being . not like not so long ago when thousands was raised and many thousands was spent on the managers office fitting out and IT WAS OVER THE TOP . i will sponser you if you can let me no the money goes where it is needed most .

Hi there
I'd also consider sponsoring you, but would also like to know whether or not all the money you raise goes directly to the charity.
I know from personal experience that some of these sponsorship expeditions DO raise money for the charity, but only after a hefty chunk of the trip expenses are paid for out of the promised monies.
I wish you both well in your challenge.

Hi,
Just wanted to say I am not ignoring these questions! I have asked Great Ormond Street for an exact breakdown of how the money is distributed.
I can say that we have pledged to raise £3,000 each and at least 50% of this does go direct to the charity – obviously anything over the £3k that we raise each will only give the hospital more.
The trek is being organised through Great Ormond Street - more details can be found at http://www.gosh.org/events/Kilimanjaro/details.html. As soon as I get the breakdown I have requested I will post this.
I hope this is ok and the only other point I would like to make we have specifically chosen this challenge as we feel we will be able to make a difference with the money we raise. Great Ormond Street is a charity very close to our hearts and we hope you will be able to help us towards our target.
Thanks
Jen

Hi Jen
Happy New Year to you too. I'm not sure if you still have your copy of the brochure, but all the details are listed there in the GOSIPL terms and conditions. Just in case: the price that we have paid for your package (approx) is £1,582 (deposit £200, air fare £500 and hotel and ground costs £882). Therefore we ensure that, of the amount you raise, at least 50% will come as a donation to our charity.
Many thanks
Rachel

Hi,
I am shamlessly 'bumping' this to the top of the list of the forum but i do also have a question.
I was asked how much of the funds end up with Great Ormond Street and i gave the answer exactly as i had it back from the charity that it was at least 50%.
Is this considered a good enough % or do you think it is to much?
If we could self fund the trip up front then we would, we are currently saving money to try and do this. We are looking at paying another £1000 to £1500 before we even step on a plane - visa, trekking gear, hire of equipment, vaccinations, insurances etc so by no means is this a holiday. We are obviously having to train really hard to be in with even a chance we can make it to the summit - 15,000 people attempt this climb every year and only 40% make it - thats the kind of odds we are facing. We are at the gym 3 or 4 nights a week and walking a minimum of 4 hours a day at the weekends - our social life has all but gone!
If you feel you are able to help us in this challenge then please visit www.justgiving.com/bennettandjenny and if you need any further reassurances that this is for real and not just a jolly (!!) then please contact me.
This climb means so much to us - all funds raised will go towards the building of a much needed cardiac ward at the hospital.
Thanks
