Carnival Comments
- Heidi West (19th Oct 2006 - 18:45:52)
As a new young Carnival committee member I was shocked and sadden to read the comments posted above. The objective of the committee is to raise money for local charities and to have fun at the same time. The new style booklet has been created based on feedback from members of the community last year, as some new and old residents weren’t aware of all of the events during the day and the full evening schedule, hence why we decided to create a map style booklet that can be put in a pocket to be reviewed during the evening. The other main factor for this was cost – this cost a third of the price from previous years and with the objective to raise as much funds as possible - we wanted to keep the overheads down so everyone benefits.
The new booking form was designed to help with the administration on the evening as we only have a few voluteers in the office (so the teams on the floats could stay on them and not be running about looking for collecting tins etc..) and to ensure all floats were definitely in the correct category, because of all the effort made. We aren’t enforcing this change hence why if you can complete before – great! If not see you on the night. We have already had many booking forms completed, especially by new entries this year who have found it helpful to plan their float.
Constructive feedback is always welcome but unfortunately in the manner these have been aired, it reads that Liphook residents do not embrace change and as this website is to promote Liphook as a friendly village to live it’s a shame this gives an opposite view.
I hope these comments do not distract from the main objective and the children who are the main priority, have a fun and enjoyable evening.
The committee are always looking for more volunteers, as when I joined I couldn’t believe that a team of 10 managed to arrange not only a carnival but other events during the year and how much money was raised by these. Marshals are also needed for the night so if any of you are interested as you seem to have a passion for the event, please call, The Chairman - Jane Laver on 01428 722688.

Jaybee
you obviously no not alot about who is or is not doing floats and who particpates every year and have, probably before you knew what Liphook Carnival was about.
Be very careful with your comments or you will be upsetting the tone of the Carnival even before it starts!
Those of us on the road each year entertaining the crowds have friendly rivarly and only those of us who build floats actually know the planning and administration that goes into a float - let alone the physical work before and after the night.
If you can't get marshalls ask yourself why?

Still a few more days to go and just time enough to book your place for the best view of the Carnival.
We do need a few more marshals to ensure the smooth running of the procession and guarantee the safety of families especially children who crowd the route on the night.
Please telephone 07968 429227 if you can spare some time between 6.00pm and 10.00pm

Jane
I have lived in and around Liphook for fifty years and have been involved in building floats and entering them in carnivals in Liphook, Alton, Bordon, Farnham and Titchfield to name but a few.
The point I was attempting to make was it is too easy to criticise without knowing the full facts.
No offence intended.
