Byways Forum Thursday October 23
- Freddie Dawkins (17th Oct 2003 - 10:31:10)
Bob Milton, a veteran campaigner from the Open Spaces Society, is the invited guest speaker for the next Parish Council-organised Byways Forum.
Bob is a farmer from Farnham and was one of the team who successfully fought various State-supported bodies, who recently wanted to enclose Linchmere Common.
The OSS is the oldest countryside preservation/protection society in the world and the Parish Council is a member.
Bob will be talking about his work and how the OSS helps Parish Councils to fight landowners who block public footpaths, try to enclose, etc etc.
I'm Chairman of the Byways Forum and have been walking all the Parish Byways (still quite a few to do, more than 50 miles) but have been amazed at how fantastic they are. It's not a case of long-distance walking - more gentle strolling with my dogs.
I discovered the footpath from Silent Garden (opposite Church Centre) across the fields to The Deer's Hut and The Links. Great walk, great views, wildlife aplenty and even a set of large ponds just yards from the Longmoor Road, yet tucked away.
I'd invite everyone to come along to The Peak Centre, Midhurst Road car park, next Thursday October 23 at 8pm. It's free.
Along with Bob Milton speaking, there will be an update on the Passfield Bridleway work (it's done!), representatives from local horse-riding groups, walkers, cyclists and gamekeepers.
There will also be news about the new volunteers group, which John Heyes is working on, to encourage more use of the byways and reports back to the Parish office, so we can keep check on conditions and maintain the byways for everyone to enjoy.
rgds to all here
