Parish Council Web Site
- Paul Robinson (1st Sep 2006 - 22:59:40)
I have just accessed the Parish Council via this site expecting to find a lead to their much vaunted web site but found the ' cupboard to be bare'.
Why don't they just accept that Liphook.co.uk IS the community web site and post their notes here for all to see.

Paul
Have you tried www.bramshottandliphook-pc.gov.uk ?
It will tell you that the site is Under Construction and there are some nice flashing organge lights ;)
I've read some of it and would suggest the Council invest in spell-check software.

Hi, Paul -
The Parish Council's website is under construction. Don't confuse this excellent website and what the PC hope to achieve. Any Council produces masses of paperwork, much of it stored electronically. If we can make a lot more of the PC's work available electronically, that must be a good thing.
The editor of this site has kindly devoted space to the PC's basic info, but a PC-managed site will be able to publish a lot more official info.
I see the two sites as complementary.

Hi Freddie,
Perhaps you can source answers to these on our behalf?
1) Why didn't the PC choose to have a section on this website, as I know the owners have agreed to manage it at no cost to the PC? This could easily be official and be a great single source of information.
Isn't two sites going to cause confusion?
I'm glad the Carnival choose to adopt a section on this website, which works very well in giving a single source of valuable information.
2) Why have they chosen such an obscure and poor domain name?
3) Finally talk about keeping local business going - why isn't a local company hosting the website? There is no excuse to not support local business the amount people rant about it on here, and there goes the PC putting money into the hands of a large PLC. Very poor show!
4) Whilst I understand the website is being designed for free, I'm sure the PC are aware of the disability requirements which being an official council website it must meet - can the PC confirm what is being done to check it meets the requirements?
I'm a very disappointed.

Just to confirm that we have no problem in hosting any PC content on Liphook.co.uk and have offered this to the PC many times.
It's a real shame they've chosen to go it alone.

I well understand what you are saying - but I think you have to remember that all council web sites in the UK have to be under the control of the councils. We are talking about official information with legal responsibilities.
As an example, HCC operate Hantsweb, a hosting site for smaller councils. Worth taking a look.
The PC site you can see at the moment is very much a test site and under construction. No decisions have yet been made on the final form and content of the Parish Council web site.
Hope this helps.
