local help offered
- andrew ellis (10th Aug 2012 - 17:03:51)

My partner's son is undertaking the National Citizenship Award, which is a government backed project promoting team work and community involvement for young people.
Today a member of the group phoned the local parish council office to ask if there were any projects that needed voluntary help in Liphook, and was informed that there was nothing that needed doing.
I am ashmed of you Parish Office...
There must be plenty of community projects that would welcome the services of a dozen or so young, willing volunteers. It is hard enough to get them out of bed in the morning for anything, but when they willingly offer, as part of their award, their services for free, it is such a shame that someone from the Parish Office could not put them in touch with a local organisation to use their free labour. Or would you rather see them hanging around the shops making a nuisance of themselves and saying there is nothing to do.
They were also looking for sponsership or small donations so at the countrymarket car boot sale they can sell some items, and hold a tombola, and all money recieved is going to all local charities (this is not a request for gifts). It is just to let the anchor garage know that you do not have to give anything, but it is not necessary to be so rude and throw back the information leaflet that you were given. A no thank you would have sufficed - what a rude garage you are.
To get back to my point - if there are any local organisations that need some assisance, please let me know as I only have tonight and tomorrow night for my partners son to try an organise something.
Thank you, Andrew. 07979332532

Hi, although I was on holiday last week I have now asked what happened and would like to correct the impression that the Parish Office Staff were unsympathetic to the potential volunteer teenagers. I believe that a councillor is now in communication with these young people, and we will assist in any way feasible, and I thank them for coming forward to help in the community.
