BT internet broadband speed
- Mary W (1st Aug 2012 - 16:46:33)

Has anyone else in the Station Road area got a BT broadband connection? I just wondered whether you'd check your broadband speed and post it up here. I am having problems with speed at the moment, they said something about an 'outage' but that it was all OK now.

Mine is 1.89 mb/s download and 0.69 mb/s upload!

Not in station road, but 1 km from exchange. Getting 10517 download and 915 upload. Line rated for 14.Has dropped to 5 during last few days, but upload never changes. Seems to get bad when it rains!!!
Have a look at this web site for suggestions in improving speed.

I don't think anyone will improve my speed - latest is: 0.102 & 0.008

Is your router plugged into the BT Master socket? If it is, contact your ISP as they should have a number of tests to narrow down where the isssue lies

Just adding my 2p..........

I'm not with BT, but have a BT line, and get 17Mbps.

So a fast connection is available in Liphook.

Two weeks ago and before that my speeds were fine, it's recently, in the last few days. Perhaps vandals have been at the cables, I saw something somewhere else, another area, where there had been deliberate vandalism.

Where is the exchange? Is it the sorting office? Because I am only a very short distance from it.

Yes, that is where it is.

Have you checked the following..

1) Every phone is plugged in through a microfilter
2) No extension leads in use
3) Is the phone line clear of crackles

Most broadband speed issues are caused within your own home. If you main socket is a new style master socket, remove the 2 screws on the lower half and pull it gently towards you - it may have some wires attached to it, so just let it gently dangle down on them. Inside you will see another BT socket, plug a microfilter into it and then only the router (no phone).

The problem is that it can take several hours before your broadband speed improves, but your provider should be able to talk you through checking the sync speed that it is connecting at, by logging you into your routers control panel. That would give a good indication of whether you had found the problem.

If you have had power cuts or have switched the broadband router off regularly the exchange will automatically downgrade the line believing that there is a problem with it.

My internet connection has always been great, for the last 6 years.
I have never had any sort of problem until about ten days ago. Nothing has changed my end, nothing has been interfered with. I always used to switch off the power socket for my modem, but I haven't been doing it recently because I like to be able to use my ipad on wifi connection.
I only have the master phone connected and the Sky connection, both have filters and I have not had any trouble with either.

Unfortunately don't know where the master socket is as I think builder may have plastered over original entry and moved the telephone socket. But I really don't think that has anything to do with it. I would just love to hear on this thread from someone else with a BT connection in Station Road or Portsmouth Road to see what their speeds are like.

I am off the Portsmouth Road my download speed is 11.56 and my upload 0.96

Whatever was wrong appears to have been put right now, as my speed is up to 7.8.

11 sounds wonderful!
