Video editing help - please!
- Sharon (13th Jun 2012 - 21:50:17)

Hi, I have a short piece of video that I recorded - in AVI format. It's 644MB, and I want to upload it to a website that has a limit of 200MB. I want to cut the beginning and end off, and save the shorthened clip, which hopefully will then be less than 200MB. It all sounds straight forward - but I don't know how! I tried to open it in Windows Live Moviemaker, which seems to be the only software I have, but when I tried to save it, much of the detail was gone, and it didn't play very well. Is there some free software somewhere that I could use for this simple task?

Thanks

Hi - Movie Maker should be able to do this but you need to be careful how you save the file. When you go to save the file make sure that you save it in the same resolution as the original file (720 x 576 for a TV standard video) and see if you can choose the H264 (mp4) format.

hi, erm,my hubby will know about this but he out of the country at the moment. The only advice i can give you tillhe comes back is:

- check for up dates for movie maker (new codec's make better compression rates)

- double check that you are saving the file at the right compression rate, you wont need it to be particularly high as its only for website. how long is the clip?

good luck! will pass it onto hubby.

Thanks for that.

In the end I downloaded VideoPad editor - free and really easy to use (had a video tutorial!)! I snipped the 1 minute I needed and it worked fine.

I will look at moviemaker again though - it could be useful.
