I've Heard a Rumour...
- E (27th Jul 2006 - 17:03:39)
That Bibi Anas is going to become yet another Indian type restaurant....please someone tell me it's not true!!
I think the centre of Liphook smells quite exotic enough already and I don't like curry. Aren't there any Italians out there??

If true, the lady who lives above, will surely have something to say about it (given what has been reported in the local press).
I guess the cooking smells she objected to when it was serving mediterranean cuisine will have been as if by Chanel by comparison to what is to come if you are right!.
But it can't be true, can it.....??

How can you not like curry? try it, who knows, you might like it, and the smell would not seem so offensive to you, I am sure this is just a bit of a hang up.

Apparently it has definately been sold to a gentleman but probably had to have the work completed as part of the sale agreement in order to keep the tenant upstairs happy. Not sure what sort of restaurant it is going to be though sorry.

So did I, but with pole and lap dancers.
Anyone know where we apply for membership.

What's a 'gentlemans type club' nowadays??
I remember, when I was a little girl, my father belonged to a club where women weren't allowed lol, but surely you can't have something like that now!!

Looking at this planning application, F.33887/007/ADV, it is definitely going to be an Indian restaurant.

I do not think we need another curry house either in the area. The best one I have found is a takeaway up at Beacon Hill called TIffin, dont need to actually go out and eat! The biggest problem when running a restaurant is getting the staff and the costs of paying them. Indian and Chinese restaurants dont have that problem as they are usually structured differently in that regard. There is no decent Greek or Italian restaurant for miles around, but the problems will only just begin for them unless the smells are not attended to from the start.

Don't worry Barbara....this restaurant, which apparently is going to be called 'Voujon' will also do take-away!!! How delightful ;)
Isn't it strange that we're not allowed to have 2 chemists but we can have umpteen restaurants and estate agents!

Barbara, that is huge contradiction. If we have enough Asian restaurants, then why do you feel the need to travel miles to get the a takeaway.
If this new restaurant / takeaway is better than the others then it should do well and one of the others will then have, probably, thrown it's last dice.
This is called healthy competition, and is what Liphook needs.
Bring on the new butcher's. If they can provide the quality and service that Sainsbury's can't, it should do well, and I urge you all to make it do well. But if it becomes a "me too" business, it will, of course, go the way of the rest of them.
Whilst you are at the Butcher's you can then pick up a loaf of the finest bread for miles around before selecting a bottle of decent wine at the nearby merchants. Then someone might have the courage to open a veg. shop.
Of course, the cafe will then probably become a Starbucks, but that is the price we must pay.

Eneida,
I'm a big fan of oriental food and can tell you quite categorically that there are no take-aways in Liphook that are better than ordinary at best and patronised, I suspect, 'cos to get better one has to travel some miles.
If the former Bibi Anas opens it's doors as an Indian take-away, and produces the goods, I would guess the only party not to be happy about that would be the resident upstairs (and possibly all the other take-aways in Liphook).
I wonder if the chap who (may have) sold the place, knowing it would become an Indian restaurant , is now overdosing in a sense of schadenfreude over the stringencies he was going to have to spend alot of money on to comply with licensing restrictions, now he has got shot of it and won't have to
Just a thought!.

We used to go to a 'Vujon' in Cove, Farnborough, which served very good food, reasonably priced, and with very helpful staff - in fact it was a regular haunt, especially for the Thursday night specials.
Is it too much to hope that we might be getting part of the same chain??

Some local villagers were invited to a lunch this week to test
the sound deadening prior to re-opening in a couple of weeks.
No mention of an indian

I suggest you log on to EHDC's excellent Planning Applications web site and look up F.33887/007/ADV as mentioned in Chris's post.
The information is freely available there for all to see!!
