Wild Flower Verges.
- A. Ryan (3rd Jun 2012 - 08:57:50)

I see that the car has won out to the wild flower verges in Devils Lane. Just as I said , as soon as it looks nice, chop it all down. It is a RURAL lane, why not just try driving a little slower!!

It's a tricky one. I cycled up there the other day and it was getting very high and affecting visibility, I did feel a bit nervous in case something was coming the other way too fast.
That said, I think leaving the verges to grow where possible is a great idea not just for wildlife (as you say this is a rural village) but can look great if properly managed.
How about trying to coordinate an assessment of which areas can be left to grow and which should be cut, maybe in conjunction with Liphook in Bloom. Often a mixture of the two with neatly cut areas and wildflower areas looks the best and in these days of austerity would also cut down mowing costs.

I agree, certain areas should be held back to go wild. As was mentioned before, the white daisies along the A3 look lovely, and I noticed the same too off the slip road to Milford. There are lupins mixed in with the daisies there and it is very effective.
