Rubbish on the green next to the Millenium Hall
- Tom (17th Jul 2006 - 09:02:55)

I'm not one to moan, and I'm really glad to see lots of people using the green next to the Millenium Hall. However, I've just about had enough of the piles of rubbish left there almost every evening. It's not just the odd crisp packet but masses of boxes, bottles and food packaging. I take my young daughter to the green to play and I find it difficult to explain why it's there.

So...
1) Any ideas on what could be done? I suppose we could ask for any extra bin here or there, but the rubbish is often left right next to one
2)Can anyone give me any names. I'm prepared to contact schools, parents or whatever.

Millennium Hall Mess

Tom

I would explain to your daughter that unfortunately there are thoughtless people about (not necessarily other children) who do not clear up their rubbish.

Then explain that it doesn’t make sense to criticise someone else and not put whatever it is right.

So by setting an example perhaps Liphook would not have any rubbish to clear up.

Certainly the rubbish would go in the bins if we put it there.

When approached diplomatically, with tongue in cheek, the response is usually “it wasn’t us”. Again an example can be set.

Glass glistens in the millennium amphitheatre, around the recycling centre and around the skateboard park. Who is liable if someone is cut by a larger piece of glass?

I have also noticed the increase in rubbish around the green. I will raise this at parish council level, who I know are already aware of the problem, to see what else can be done. I suspect though, that we could put more bins in place but they probably wouldn' get used by all who are responsible for dropping litter in the first place.
