Foxes In The Area
- Sue Davies (1st Jun 2012 - 18:51:41)

Tuesday night our neighbour saved our cat who was being attacked and cornered by two foxes in our driveway. Thankfully I managed to get our cat in safely but he was very frightened and distraught by his experience. I periodically checked out of the bedroom window during the night and saw on several occassions the foxes returning to our garden. Please take care as we have seen the foxes around the area a few times over the last few weeks in the Tunbridge Crescent and Paddock way area.

Thanks for the warning.

I have seen a fox at the junction of Paddock Way/Tunbridge Cres/The Mead around 9pm at night and my husband saw one trotting down the road at 5.30am last week with a blue plastic bag of something in its mouth.

Didn't know they were bothering the cats tho. Will keep a look out.

Went to burger king Aldershot the other night working late .There was a fox in the car park going round to all the cars for tit bits no fear at all.

What are you saying? that we should get rid of the foxes? Foxes have as much right to live as cats do. In fact I bet there were foxes running around when Paddock Way was still a paddock. A fit cat will be able to look after itself, it's only the pampered chubby ones that make a tasty morsel for Mr Fox!
Before you try to explain to me why foxes are a pest that need to be controlled I know the arguments and am just putting the foxes side across. I think a foxes life is harder than a pooches, that's all.

I totally agree!! This is a rural village, what do you expect? Most cats and foxes usually give each other a respectful wide berth. For heavens sake the place would be littered with dead cats if good old fox kept picking on them. If you go out late in the evening you will probably see a lot more. If I am out late I always see one, in fact one was right outside my house last night. I have chickens and ducks and I love to see the fox. Some people just want a sterile countryside.... so sad.

tony m and A. Ryan - what thread were you reading?????

Did anybody say anything to indicate that foxes were pests that needed eradicating? No. It was simply a helpful warning from a resident so that people in the area could be forewarned and take more care if necessary. In fact, just the sort of useful thing that Talkback should be used for .......... and then you two wade in.

Honestly!!

I suggest you read again then, as the tone smacks of anti fox. Again to reiterate, foxes have been around here far longer than these housing estates. Cats and foxes tend to give each other a wide berth. Why all of a sudden is it now an issue, If you have lived here all your life you should have learnt to except the fox as part of our environment. People can not keep cats in for fear they may run into a fox, that is cruel in itself. I am sure most cats out and about at night manage to dodge the fox, their main worry is that of the car!

Yeah Jay, it's called Talkback and I was talking back, seems OK to me.
Still rooting for the fox though!
You know a cat will always win in a straight fight, alright two against one was a bit cowardly though. I think the cat was more angry than scared. Those foxes better keep a low profile for a while.

Was it not a few years ago that a fox mauled a sleeping baby? The tone does not smack of anti fox. Just a friendly warning for people to keep an eye out for their pets.

There is no need to take such a sarcastic tone to someone trying to be helpful.

about ten years ago there was a very timid little fox that crept in to my parants garden at collyers crescent.
she used to sneak in to tha garden to finish off my mums cats food as they are fed outside.
she trusted us so much she brought us her little cub, to show us. we used to hand feed her and i still have a picture of her doing so.
she was tragicly killed on the road but she never once went for the cats, in fact it was the other way round!!!!!!!!!

That's democracy at work. Some people like it, some don't. Don't take it too personally. I hear that in North Korea they only allow one point of view...

Dear me, some people are very touchy !! Just sticking up for the fox. The original message was rather scaremongering and the fox rarely gets good press. One barking outside my window this morning again !

Thanks for the warning Sue.
