Liphook in Bloom
- Paul Robinson (11th Jul 2006 - 14:20:28)
I know I say it every year but at the risk of stating the 'bleedin' obious' don't you think that the village is looking great this year?
Notwithstanding the eyesore that is Lloyds Bank, I think this year the Liphook in Bloom team have excelled themselves in what we all know are very poor growing conditions.
Moreover I think that some of the windows in the shops that reflect the floral theme are really first class.

Personally I think the people who give up their time to make our village look so good should be given the freedom of liphook or a medal cos they do such a great job with what seems to me like little thanks.

I wholeheartedly and sincerely agree with these comments. I wrote to the Herald a while ago saying the same thing (pity they didn’t print it) and expressing my gratitude for all the hard work that they and a lot of others do in the village, the majority of it on a voluntary basis and sometimes in difficult weather conditions. Their contribution is valued and appreciated by all and makes a very real difference to the lives of people living in Liphook. Well done to all those involved you’re a great and positive influence in a lot of peoples lives.
Best wishes
Barry Hope

My fellow bloomers don't know I am posting this so hope they don't mind!
We are all volunteers trying to make the village look nice for residents and villagers alike and can only do so with the help of the parish council and the over 50 individual businesses and private individuals who have so far sponsored us this year ( you can see who many of them are by the plaques on hanging baskets, tubs etc around the village, although some like to remain anonymous). We are always looking for volunteers, young and old, to help especially at planting and clearing days. You may even get a free cup if tea and kitkat if you turn up!
I hope you are all enjoying the range of planting this year along the square, Station Road, Fletcher's Field, London Road and by the council office and post office etc, and if you have any suggestions for future projects then please let the team know, we are always looking to improve things.
New for this year is a herbaceous border in front of the Millennium Hall, have a look next time you're passing (pop your head over the beech hedge).
Finally a big thank you from me for your kind comments and to all the businesses and individuals who took the time to enter into the spirit of Liphook in Bloom week with their lovely gardens, fab hanging baskets, shop window displays etc etc
Perhaps everyone who reads this site can enter next year - that would really make Liphook Bloomin lovely!
Kind regards
A bloomer!
