Older kids, play park and litter
- A mum (30th May 2012 - 15:17:33)

I appreciate it's that time of year again where bohunt kids decend on the village, but its getting a little irritating they way they take over the children's play park with their swearing, litter and now graffiti on the see saw.

I understand 'they have nowhere to go' but some more respect wouldn't go amiss

Did you see a child in a Bohunt uniform doing the graffiti? If so you should talk to the headmaster. Or are you making assumptions? My daughter goes to Bohunt and I have bought her up not to swear, pick up her litter and she would know not to graffiti things. Also I do think its unfair to say "Bohunt kids" because its down to the way the individual children have been bought up not down the school. I do think its wonderful that the younger children now have a wonderful play area but what about the older children, is there any thing planned for them?

I have younger children and have been in the play park a few times at this time of year when hoardes of local older children, free from exams, have taken over the playground.

The language can be awful but I've found that if you ask most of them not to swear in front of the smaller children, or to let the little ones have a go on the play equipment, most are very nice. I've had a few hilarious grovelling apologies about language ('I'm so sorry madam' etc). So don't be worried about approaching them nicely if you aren't happy. Most are just nice local kids looking for something to do (though they are a bit intimidating in large gangs), and despite how they look, they are still close enough to 'childhood'that they still genuinely enjoy a go on the swings! A few sets of swings in the older play area on the other side of the park would probably work wonders!

I'm not saying that all the bohunt kids are the problem, as always a few ruin it for the rest. At the moment the year 11's on study leave are all over the rec and park which is great, why not its their community too and the vast majority don't swear, do pick up their rubbish and do leave the little kids to play on the swings etc, but it seems a few are a little less considerate.
You only have to go up there this afternoon and 3 seperate groups of teenagers, (one would 'assume' from the local area/school as they aren't old enough to drive and the rest of the school years are at school still) and left litter in the park, and on the rec in two places! I know it has been mentioned to bohunt, not sure what difference it will make, we will have to wait and see.....
As I said a few ruin it for the rest!

Theres no problem having kids in the park, that's great. The problem is when they take over the little childrens safe play area, despite the signs telling them not to. That's selfish. It stops the younger children using the equipment and damages things too.
Respect to the older guy I saw telling them off a few days ago, whoever he was!
