vets in Liphook
- kirk west (29th May 2012 - 18:54:31)

Just wondering if anyone else in Liphook thinks the vets in Headly road are rip of merchants?
I recently took my cat to their hospital in Midhurst, the cat was in a bad way. The vet on duty examined the cat and said the best thing for the cat was to be put to sleep. After an injection and 10 - 15 minutes i left with the boy to take home and lay to rest in the garden along side his brother. About 5 days later a bill arrives from the vets for £ 145.00, i could not believe it ! 15 minutes of a vets time and an injection. I spoke to the vets admin and she confirmed that was the fee. I told her no wonder the vet is driving around in a brand new range rover. In comparison, my son took his dog to his vet (Archway vets in petersfield) it was also an out of hours appointment. Again the dog was very sick with a suspected bacterial infection, he spent the night on a drip at the vets, had blood tests with a nurse looking after him . he was kept in until 5 pm the next evening ( 22hrs of care) he had 5 injections, and follow up pills. when my son asked me how much did i think the bill would be i guessed at between £400 and £500 . No he said
£224 .. I'm just wondering how that out? Well i know what I'm doing, moving vets, Archway vets, Petersfield here i come..
Any one else have a similar experience with that vet ?

If you think a pensioner gets less than £145 to live on for a week It is disgusting,

Interesting comment. When I first came to Liphook almost 20 years ago, I had a German Shepherd dog which had been prone to epilepsy since puppyhood.
He had a regime of tablets to control this, which from my former vet in Chichester, cost £13 per month. When I went to the vets in Headley road, They wanted £30 for the same amount of the same drugs!!!!

I agree with the OP that the vets in the Headley Road are very expensive. We moved to Liphook from Devon where we used an excellent vet who charged about half the price.

Perhaps Liphook is now large enough to support 2 practices...nothing like competition to keep the prices sensible...

a few years back the liphook vets told me my staffie x had cancer, she was rapidly going down hill, not eating or drinking shivering and just very unwell. they wanted me to put her through lots of tests and an operation which i know would not have saved her any way, she was 12.
the vet refused to put her to sleep despite having muscle wastage on her and she and i had to suffer another week before another vet at the practice put her to sleep, heart breaking stuff as she was suffering, i had no transport and so could not go else where. but it has put me off taking my other dog ther again, i would go else where and ask for a lift .
and my medication for my bull dog is cheaper at the local chemist.

Thanks for the comments, thought maybe it was just me. My sister in-law uses the one in whitehill and she says they are very good. I will be using the archway vets in petersfield from now on....

A while ago, our cat had a run in with a car, took her to woodlands with a suspected broken leg. After a visit to midhurst she had a x-ray and thankfully no broken bones. The bill?..... x-ray and some painkillers... over £300!

I agree! We got completely turned off - felt they were just money grubbing. So I did a little research and found that Amery Vets (surgeries in Bordon, Grayshott and Alton) were far more reasonable. I even got 5% discount for being 'old' - which probably paid for my petrol! The only vet I saw (I always asked to book with her) is a South African born vet called Annedine (I can't remember her surname). She was so honest with us - told us what everything cost, explained everything. In Liphook, when my cat had to have an operation, I asked about the cost and the vet gave me some figure off the top of her head and it turned out to be much more. I was very happy with Amery and would recommend them to you.

Jim Logan in Whitehill, Lemon Grove surgery is highly recommended. Reasonable and professional. He saved our puppies life one Sunday after being bitten by another dog. No overcharging and friendly service.

Try Chris Serjeant of Total Pet Care at the top of Weyhill Haslemere. We have been with him for years. Nice friendly staff and a good vet to our animals.
