Another TETRA mast
- Freddie Dawkins (22nd Sep 2003 - 08:45:49)
Tonight's Parish Planning Committee meeting will be considering a second application for another TETRA mast. The mast would in fact be additions to the existing Orange mast at Old Barn Farm off Hewshott Lane, near the A3.
The application would mean the addition of extra post aerials and dishes, which would increase the height of the mast from 30metres to around 35 metres.
If you are interested in what's going on and would like to hear some new information about the whole TETRA/Airwave debate, come along to the Parish Office tonight at 8pm.

I agree - there is another facing the village green at St james place - has this got planning ?
I understood these masts had to be away from residential areas due to the emmision of the harmful radio waves.
and the nearest houses at St james place are quite near
what is the councils opinion on this ?

Mark -
The mast you refer to is totally illegal. Thx to vigilance of people in St.James' Place, the Parish and District Council were alerted. A stop order has been issued.
But, Airwave MMo2 are so far behind their installation schedule, they are trying to do this in quite a few sites, erecting without permission and then trying to get retrospective planning permission. Unbelievable behaviour for a contractor of the Home Office - and these masts are purely for a new police national network. The network is claimed to be needed - but the analogue system has worked quite well for some years now and is not in danger of failing.
The local press have picked up on this, so watch local papers for developing story.

Dear Residents of Liphook,
I write from Hythe on the edge of the New Forest by Southampton Water. Like you we have an Airwave O2 Tetra mast in the midst of a residential area. Ours was erected after planning permission was refused. Unlike your sturdy councillors however, our council will not place a Stop Order on the mast and work has been continuing even though an Enforcement Order is in place.
We would like to speak to someone from your council. Why did you feel able to place a Stop Order when our council will not? With the answer to this, we may be able to persuade/shame our council into doing likewise.
I represent the residents campaigning group and can be contacted by e-mail or on 02380 849156
Hoping you can help,
Barrie Slipper

Barrie -
Nice to hear from you. Suggest everyone here takes a look at: www.mastsanity.org
This is a voluntary site, which is trying to present a true national picture of what is happening.
Tomorrow wil be interesting, as the Stop Order should be issued by EHDC, as the relevant planning authority.
If you look at what's happening on mastsanity.org, you'll be amazed how many other illegal masts are up.
I'll keep people up to date here, as events unfold tomorrow.

....and EHDC's Enforcement Officers have done their job and the mast has gone!
I visited at lunch-time, to see the removal taking place.
Now we will have to wait and see if mmo2 make an application to erect a mast.
