Sainsbury's Supermarket Trolleys
- Paul Robinson (17th May 2012 - 10:24:09)

It has been brought to the attention of the Parish Council that Sainsbury's supermarket trolleys are still being left around the village.

These trolleys are a hazard to pedestrians and recently two such abandoned trolleys were used in costly acts of vandalism.

If you spot a trolley that has clearly been abandoned near your property please telephone Sainsburys on 01428 723124 (Select option 4) or 07538 878689 and they will arrange for it to be collected.

I see people pushing their shopping home on Sainsburys trolleys quite often - something that doesn't seem to bother them or raise any eyebrows. I thought perhaps here in Liphook the supermarket had a more relaxed policy about letting pople 'borrow' them for the short journey home before returning them. Possibly misguided if this is this is the case since they may not be making it back.

Are they not supposed to lock up if you try and remove them from the Sainsbury's site.

Dave - I don't think they're really that smart (despite the signs!)

Part of Sainsburys original permission was to have locking trolleys this worked for a while but was switched off .
The best system is where you have to put a coin in to release a trolly and retrieve coin when trolley is returned

Sainsburys at Cobham use this system as does nearly all the super markets in Europe

Even though planned I don't think Liphook ever had the right kind of trolleys!

I'm not the Dave who posted earlier.

It is great to learn that one of our elected PCs has nothing more serious to worry about than supermarket trollies!

A bit harsh I feel; concerns have been addressed to PC

I am pleased that a member of the Parish Council is concerned about the problem of Sainsburys trolleys littering the village.
People should not be allowed to rmove trolleys from Sainsburys property, coin in the slot is one solution, fines are another.
Recently I called at the store to ask for an abandond trolley to be recovered and was told (wait for it) they couldn't do so as it was against Health & Safety but they would give me the telephone number of a company that would arrange collection.
To be fair in the end sanity prevailed and collection was made the next day

I wonder if supermarket trollies have any scrap value?

Dave,
Councillor Robinson has very kindly given those who may be bothered by abandoned trolleys the correct contact number to call.

What is the problem with him passing this on?

Honestly, I do wonder if permanent critisism is neccessary when we are doing our best to answer concerns or residents and keep the area tidy.

I thank you Councillor Robinson for taking the trouble to pass the message on.
