Replacing garage roof
- Adrian Adams (15th May 2012 - 21:50:03)

Hi there,

I hope someone can help me. We are purchasing a semi-detached house in Liphook (Paddock Way) and the garage has woodworm and a leaking roof. The garage is attached to the garage next door. We have had a quote for replacing the damaged beams and recovering the roof but the builder said that our garage couldn't be done in isolation and next doors' would have to be re-roofed as well.

However, I spoke to the lady opposite who has a similar garage and she thought theirs had been re-roofed in isolation without needing to do next door.

Could anyone shed light on this for me - I'd be most appreciative.

Many thanks,

Adrian

Hi Adrian,

We look forward to welcoming you to Paddock Way shortly!

We have just had our garage roof converted to a pitch roof as part of a garage conversion but we were quoted by 3 separate buiders to have our garage conversion done with a flat roof or a pitch roof.

I don't think any of the builders told us it was impossible to do our roof without our neighbour's roof - just that it was more difficult so as to avoid any damage to neighbour's roof. As it was, our neighbour decided to have hers done as well and got a discount!

Obviously it is easier if your new neighbour decides to have his done as well - have you mentioned to him?

So, try another company and here I go again, recommending the firm that did our work - Stuart Finch 01420 474460. If you ring him, tell him I want commission, I think someone down the bottom in Greenfields Close is also using him now!
