Hosepipe Ban Lifted?
- Phil (11th May 2012 - 13:00:30)

According to reputable news sources, various counties have lifted the hosepipe ban (following the wettest drought ever!).

I have checked various Liphook postcodes on the water company website, all of which come back saying the hosepipe ban is lifted.

Is that a conscensus view? Don't wish to have the 'water police' sent around if I finally wash my car!

Obviously I am not encouraging excessive water consumption here, but would be grateful if others could triangulate this breaking news?

Phil

Check who you are paying your water bill with before assuming anything!

If I put my postcode in Liphook into the Southern Water website it tells me no restrictions are in place.

BUT I pay my bill to South East Water who still have all restrictions in place!

South East Water still have the hosepipe ban in place, since much of their water comes from boreholes which have not yet been replenished by the rain.

Can anyone advise whether I can use a pressure washer without being reported? This is to use on decking not plant watering but still use of water none the less.

Some pressure washers will work directly from a water butt - worthwhile checking, but using it from the 'mains' would be illegal if you are a South East Water customer.

It is surprising how little water a jet washer actually uses though, much less then just running a hose

I used my pressure washer last week to clean my patio. It is a new patio, still under construction, and I contacted South East Water beforehand to check this was OK which apparently it is for Health & Safety reasons. They send out a letter confirming exemption.

So, if you think you have a valid reason for using a jet washer, just give South East Water a call and ask them. I do suggest you do this before you use the washer though...
