I have noticed how untidy the grass looks around Liphook recently what happened to the team who regularly used to cut ? the weeds grass and daisies seem to be taking over the grass verges. Such a shame when the Liphook in Bloom Team who are all volunteers are working really hard around the village getting ready for the In Bloom Competition with the flower beds and baskets. Just hope something can be sorted out soon and the EHDC or local Council can get together and deal with the problem before there are more wild overgrown areas in the village than really needed !!

On the Headley Road it's also not been cut for several weeks and looks a mess.

I understood from Talkback that EHDC are now responsible where as previously it was the Parish Council. EHDC's website says the opposite so I have contacted EHDC to confirm who is responsible and when the verges will be cut next.

I'll post when I have a reply.

We can all agree that the grass cutting is well below the standard we enjoyed over the past few years. This is the result of a change in contract reponsibility.
In April the Parish Council were informed by EHDC that they no longer would be given the contract for cutting the grass areas that are the responsibility of EHDC. This amongst other issues needing to be managed resulted in a loss of income to the Parish Council. Fortunatley through staff redeployment the impact has been, to a degree, offset.
However this leaves the problem of unsatisfactory verges and uncut grass.
EHDC have awarded the contract elsewhere. There is currently a lack of required clarity as to who is responsbile for which areas and who should cut what. A meeting has been held with EHDC to try and resolve this uncertainty. The Parish Office are fully aware of the unpleasant consequences of delay and seeking to resolve a.s.a.p.
Ownership of the area around the pond (Sainsbury/HCC) on Midhurst Road is also being investigated with a view to having the railings repaired and the verges cut.
It is intended also that a process be in place to review the standard of work undertaken by the contractors and report any unsatisfactory work.

I noticed it today. The grass verges are turning into meadows and the dandelions are doing especially well. We should have a great show of them soon. We can also look forward to some lovely yellowing of the verges when they finally get round to cutting. Great for the Liphook in Bloom judging, don't you think?

This is the response I have received from EHDC following my earlier query.

\'EHDC are responsible for the grass cutting of County and District Council land in Liphook. This grass in Liphook was previously cut in the first week of the cut we are currently in which started 28th April. It is next scheduled to be cut in the first week of the next cut which start on Friday this week (Friday 25th).

Due to the very wet and now very hot weather we have been experiencing the grass has become very long throughout the whole district. As I am sure you are aware hot and wet weather is perfect growing conditions for grass and weeds.

The grass in Liphook is in the cutting schedule with the rest of the district now and will be cut in line with the 9 cuts a year schedule we operate. We are currently on cut 3.\'

I vote we leave the grass how it is, cut it back at the edges so it doesnt disturb the pavements and leave the rest as wildflower and butterfly patches :-)

Sarah, I agree, we live in a rural area, leave the edges for wild flowers,to attract the butterflies and insects. As you come off the A3 into Liphook when the large daisy like flowers are out it looks lovely. Perhaps Liphook in Bloom could think about these areas. Local businesses and people could donate a few seeds, it could look really nice.Mind you in my experience as soon as the wild flowers are out, along come the council and chop them all down!!

The longer grass looks very nice, but it will trigger hay fever in many suffereres. Better keep taking the antihistamines I guess
