IPad 3 G connection in Liphook
- Mary W (4th May 2012 - 17:19:21)

Wonder if anyone who has an iPad can tell me what the 3G connection is like in Liphook? My new toy connects to my home broadband, but I have bought a Vodafone sim card and tried it out in the iPad (with the wifi switched off) and although all the bars are filled in, there is only a circle showing in the top bar, which I am informed means that I have the worst connection possible.

I was told that the 3g symbol should show, and I wonder if I am doing something wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

http://www.vodafone.co.uk/vodafone-uk/personal-coverage/index.htm

If you copy and paste the web address above this should help you out. I'm with o2 and on my iphone I only ever get 3G in places like Farnham, Guildford, Portsmouth and London etc!

Seems as if the only sim with decent coverage is Three. Thanks for that link.

After putting the sim card in the iPad , when I am at home I should be on my broadband connection, but Vodafone is showing in the top left hand corner unless I turn mobile data off. Is this what other people do? I don't want to be using my valuable 500mg of sim unless I have to, not when I already pay for broadband so that it is free fo other devices. Bit of a newby with iPads, any help appreciated from anyone who knows a bit more about them.

I can't give an answer for the iPad as mine is not a wi-fi version however, if you go to Settings/General/Network you may find an "enable 3g" button which may be set to "off".

Regards
Keith

With my iphone if wi-fi is available it uses that instead of 3G so I should imagine its the same with the ipad!

I think it's possible it is the mobile data option...
