State of the South Downs Conference - Freddie Dawkins (14th Jun 2006 - 08:56:43) The "State of the South Downs" Conference will be held on Thursday, 22 June 2006, 9.30am - 4.00pm, Bishop Otter Campus, University College Chichester. The conference marks the official launch of a public consultation exercise on a draft Management Plan for the South Downs. The Plan will provide a framework for a range of bodies including local authorities, government agencies and voluntary organisations to participate effectively in the management of this outstanding and internationally important landscape over the next five years. The consultation period runs from June until September 2006 during which time residents, key stakeholders and local businesses will have the opportunity to view the plan and voice their opinions on those issues that affect the future of the South Downs. The responses to the consultation will be collated and published in March 2007 and used to inform the final content of the Management Plan. The conference is free of charge - to encourage participation in the consultation process. The programme will include influential speakers from a range of environmental backgrounds and there will be an opportunity to participate in a series of themed workshops.
