The Deers Hut
- linda (13th Apr 2012 - 00:00:47)

So the last decent pub in Liphook is going to be turned into a Bistro. Do we need one?

I was surprised to find out that they got planning permission to build an extra room when it is a listed building! Are they still going to let the caravan holiday makers use the field and will they still hold the Vintage car rally?

Where do we walk to now on a Sunday for a pint before Sunday Roast , where we were always made welcome with dogs and toddler in tow? I can just imagine The Links letting you in their pub with muddy boots and dirty paws!!!

So sad to see Steve and Lorraine go, I wish them luck for the future.

I have to disagree that this is a decent pub, having been into the pub on a few occasions its was never very welcoming and as a result I would never go back there. got the feeling it was a grumpy old mans pub

change is sometimes a good thing

I've always found the Links very welcoming when I go in with muddy boots and muddy dog after a walk actually.

I agree with Linda. I have found The Deers Hut to be a friendly pub with excellent beer in recent years. Given that the area is already reasonably-well served with pubs with bistro food and expensive drinks (£4 a pint on my salary makes for a meagre night out), I am sad to see the possible end of well-kept ale (Doombar at £2.60) and honest pub grub at The Deers Hut. The camping field is often full suggesting that visitors to Liphook appreciate the place too. Feels like the loss of a Liphook amenity to me.

Pub Groaner,
In response to your post. I think Steve and Lorraine have run a great pub and it will be very sad to see them go. You clearly don't enjoy a real pub.

Your sort of post is why this site now sadly has a reputation of being a place for poisonous uninformed comment.

Out with the old in with new.

The Deers hut use to be one of the best pubs around, the current owners tried their best but unless you invest in a pub it will just go downhill. The beer was always kept very well but the food dropped below par which is what a lot of people want from a pub these days.

Also the pub over the years has started to look a bit messy and uninviting to the passer by.

It is a shame its lost it country feel but I am sure things well get better, prices will go up but with that you will get a nice pub and I am sure great food.

I feel the changes should have happened a while ago as anyone with a business head on can see that the place is a gold mine with a fantastic location and it can easily capitalise on the golfers and the people that like a walk to a pub.

I would like to wish Lorraine all the best in what ever she does as she has worked very hard behind the bar for many years long before running the place. Good luck and you will be missed.
