Films for Cinema
- John Tough (10th Apr 2012 - 11:29:02)

The Trailer Evening was extremely well attended and I am very grateful to the 30 people who came and voted for the next films. It makes the choice of films much easier for me and more reliable – and if we were to make a bad choice I can’t be blamed! Of course since we have been using this system for selecting films they have all been excellent and popular. I am also very pleased that those who attended Trailer Viewing seemed to enjoy the evening thoroughly.

I put all the scores into my spreadsheet and then took the average score for each film. This came up with the following top 5 all with very close scores (out of 5):

Order (Score)
1 - The Artist (4.4)
2 - The Help (4.4)
3 - War Horse (4.1)
4 - Mao’s Last Dancer (4.0)
5 - My Week with Marilyn (4.0)

I was very pleased to find so many people wanted Mao’s Last Dancer. With such support I am now undecided whether we should have it on a Friday evening or a Sunday afternoon. It is not a children’s film, 12a, but we might be able to attract dance and ballet students who are likely to be in their teens and older – I will get in touch with all the local dance and ballet schools and academies. Would they prefer Friday or Sunday do you think and which would you prefer? I also note that this Friday’s showing of The Iron Lady is almost sold out but not many tickets have gone yet for Sunday and I wonder if Sunday afternoon is not a good time for films. I would be grateful for your views on this and will book it for sometime during June.

The other films have been booked for the following Fridays:

4th May 2012 - War Horse
1st June 2012 - The Artist
6th July 2012 - The Help
3rd August 2012 - My Week with Marilyn

Tickets will be available from the Millennium Centre as soon as I have printed them.

I will let you know the date for Mao’s Last Dancer as soon as it is fixed.

Our March film, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, was a great success; we sold out and sadly had to turn several people away.

Tickets for The Iron Lady this Friday and Sunday are, as would be expected, going very well. The Friday showing is almost sold out so if this is the one you want to attend then make sure you get your tickets as soon as you can. There are still plenty of tickets available for the Sunday showing.

Can I put in a plug for a forthcoming a event, Liss Band in Concert, which I organise each year in aid of the Liphook Division of St John Ambulance. Liss Band returns to the Liphook Millennium Centre for an eighth year to present a concert on Saturday 5th May at 7.30pm. This popular concert has become an annual event much looked forward to in Liphook. We are very fortunate to have such an excellent Brass Band in our neighbouring village and they always present such an enjoyable and entertaining event. Their annual visit to Liphook is always a firm favourite. Tickets at £8 will soon be available in the Millennium Centre.
