information needed - and an old bath!
- Dawn Hoskins (31st Mar 2012 - 12:25:15)

Thanks to a stray dog that came charging into our garden and jumped into the fish pond whilst chasing the cat...... we now have a big rip in our pond liner.

We have lots of fish we need to save and will need an old bath or something - maybe a small paddling pool to put them into. We have been to the tip to see if they had anything - but no luck.

Second request is for info, we have lots of toad & frogspawn. How long do they take to get from wriggly things to actual frogs. We dont want to wipe them out completely so if we can wait we will. As long as we save the fish.

Please e-mail if you can help. Thanks all.
Dawn

Wonderful to have a pond - our wildlife is desperately short of water bodies. However if you have fish then you wont have frogs or toads as they have a high mortality rate any way and the fish will eat the remainder. Why not have two ponds - one for fish and one for wildlife!

Can confirm that we definately have all three.

I recently removed a pre formed pond from our garden. It was 2 years old and perfectly useable. If it helps save your fish you are welcome to it. You would need a pick up or a van to move it though.

We live in Longmoor Road

Sorry Dawn I didnt mean to sound like I was doubting you had all three. I meant to say that the fish would predate on the spawn and tadpoles (not the adults). I think you are likely to have migrating adults laying the eggs, the majority of which would be eaten by the fish.
Good luck with the rescue.

Dear Colin,
That sounds great, .
We have a car trailer so that shouldn't be a problem.
When could I come?
