Cinema Trailers
- John Tough (22nd Mar 2012 - 17:10:28)

Tomorrow night - 23rd March at 8pm - free admission - Liphook Millennium Hall.

In addition to acquiring trailers, I have, as before, produced detailed information on each film on the list, including Phill Walkley’s comments, a brief extract from Roger Ebert’s review, and Screenrush analyses. Phill Walkley is the Programme Director of Moviola the charity formed to supply village halls etc with films. Roger Ebert is, insists Phill Walkley, the world’s most reliable film critic; he reviews for the Chicago Sun-Times and has his own website http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/. Screenrush (http://www.screenrush.co.uk/) analyses film reviews in all the major newspapers and film magazines in the US and UK and converts each review to its own 5-star rating as well as including a telling extract from the review. The average Screenrush rating, I believe, is a useful guide as to what to expect.

In addition to the film information there will, again as before, be a score sheet for you to record a score of 0 (or blank) to 5, where 0 (or blank) means you would not like to see the film at all and 5 means that you would like to see it very much. I then calculate the average score for each film and ask Moviola for the films with the highest average. Since we introduced this system, it has certainly provided us with a diet of excellent films which have proved very popular.

The films being offered by Moviola for the next 4-month period form an impressive list as follows:

THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN: SECRET OF THE UNICORN
ANONYMOUS
THE ARTIST
BEGINNERS
THE DEEP BLUE SEA
THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO
THE HELP
HUGO
JOHNNY ENGLISH REBORN
MAO’S LAST DANCER
MIDNIGHT IN PARIS
MY WEEK WITH MARILYN
WAR HORSE
WE HAVE A POPE
THE WOMAN IN BLACK

I hope you will be able to get to the Trailer Viewing and I look forward to seeing you there.
