Ratford Cottage
- Lyn McCulloch (15th Mar 2012 - 10:54:32)

I now realise that what I thought was Natford is actually Ratford.

I also notice that Ratford seems to have become Radford. Can anyone tell me where Ratford/Radford Cottage, Liphook was?

Thanks,
Lyn McCulloch nee Huntingford(Huntingford One Name Study)

There is no mention on the internet of Radford ever being Ratford, do we assume that a spider wrote the address ?

There is no Radford Cottage listed on the Royal Mail Address Database.

I have a post card addressed to Mrs Huntingford 'at' Ratford Cottage, Liphook. In 1911 Charles and Ann Huntingford lived in Queen St. This, I gather is now called Haslemere Road.
In 1881 they lived at 4 Stable Cottages, Bramshott. When Charles was 1 he lived near the Anchors Inn next to a Draper's Shop. I expect Radford Cottage is long gone. Just hope that somebody local might know where it was.
Thanks for any help,
Lyn

I vaguely remember there being a Radford Cottage in Conford, not sure if this info is relevant to your enquiry?

Lyn ,Re Radford Cottage.

On our way to Bramshott Boys School i believe we we used to go past a Radford Cottage which was opposite the now Radford Park entrance, next to where the bus stop is now. I think the cottage disapeared when they built the dual carriage way in the late 60s. There used to be a very small footpath around it through bushes ideal for hide and seek!

Hope this helps

I seem to recall seeing a very old postcard of Radford Bridge and it was spelt 'Ratford'.

Maybe someone from the preservation society can shed some light on this?

Having spent an enjoyabe couple of hours at the exibition being held at the Rural Life Centre, which was called Liphook - the coaching town that grew, I can confirm that Radford used to called Ratford.

I do not know how or when it changed though - maybe you should pop into the Millennium Centre to talk to the preservation society. It is open most days and free to enter.

Thank you for all your replies. If anyone comes across the name Huntingford I would be interested to know.
