It’s the end of Village life as we know it………
- Les (14th Apr 2006 - 20:08:46)
It’s the end of Village life as we know it……… Lock your doors and windows, put away anything in the garden of value, dont get your drive tarmac'd ................. Pikies have moved onto the OSU site!
Only four at the moment but another 104 are on their way!
Makes you feel sorry for those who live on the green!

I'm not surprised this site has been chosen. With the main gate wide open and the boundary fence falling down, it wouldn't take much to enter and take it over. Whoever is responsible for its security should be made to sort it out.

As far as I am aware the OSU site, or whats left of it, is between Sainsbury's and the Beaver Industrial Estate. I drove past it a few minutes ago but I couldn't see any sign of any "travellers". Perhaps les is talking about another site.

This is not a good situation. Evidently they have been causing trouble in Sainsburys already, and would imagine will make a nuisance of themselves over the weekend. Who do we need to talk to about getting them moved on? I saw the police on-site yesterday evening, but gather they are still there this afternoon.

'Travellers' at OSU/'Spaniard' Hotel sites
- Niall Greenwood (12th May 2006 - 17:05:01)
I spoke with the Parish and District Councils about this problem (see the other posting) and in fact spoke to the 'travellers' when I first bumped into them - and they promised to leave that week! (Which I suppose is their first tactic for getting rid of 'nosey locals').
From what I have seen all of the legislation is to do with 'their rights', care of the children and due process. The Council more or less abdicated responsibility with the 'Spaniard' site as it is privately owned, but undertook to send an official to 'take a slow drive past', which must have really worried them!
The best bet is for the OSU site to be reported, (unless it's private as well?) and ensure the Council starts the (slow) eviction process - then secure the site properly afterwards. For the 'Spaniard' I was hoping the A3 traffic noise might wear the travellers down before the owner can be made to take action, but neither has happened yet. In any case the Council might not 'own' this problem, but they should take the lead in case it does turn nasty.

Don't worry about building. Just put the Bulldozers through and push them all the way to petersfield where they came from.
Then, and heres the clever bit...... secure the gates at the OSU....... told you it was clever. then they can't get back on there.
