Loss of Freeview TV Signal following Switchover
- Julie (3rd Mar 2012 - 15:30:57)
Is anyone else having problems receiving TV channels since 29th Feb switchover? We now have 0 channels on our Philips Digital TV (circa 7 years old) despite several attempts to retune! Have tried everything suggested but to no avail. Is our TV now redundant?!

you may need a booster depending where you live ------- do you have a digital aerial?

Julie,
We live in Liphook and had the complete switchover when the Hannington transmitter went digital.
We've also lost all channels on our 2 year old flat screen TV with in-built freeview, even though we do have a booster. We can however access all channels on another TV connected to a separate freeview box.
I can't remember what it's called, but there's a thread on this site about the problems with the Hannington changeover...perhaps the Editor can highlight this for you...

I've just had a rummage around the freeview sites and came across the well hidden information for the Midhurst transmitter.
www.freeview.co.uk/...
It seems weve lost access to ITV1 and quite a few other channels on this transmitter. I'm annoyed with the lack of information and the apparent randomness of the changes - and why for pitys sake over the weekend!
Lets hope they finally get their act together and sort this out.

No problems with reception from Midhurst transmitter. However......during retuning for folks have found cheaper stand alone freeview boxes unable to show all stations. Likewise built in freeview boxes in cheap tv's often not up to scratch. Remember it is better to do retune by going to restore factory settings.

Having previously only got dodgy 3 channel analogue from Hannington prior to switchover, I was pleasantly surprised to get good quality BBC channels on Freeview after switchover phase 1 and the ITV/C4 package/mux after switchover phase 2. However, at sometime during last Saturday, all of the BBC channels and radio (UHF CH 45) have become unwatchable/unlistenable - blocking and intermittent sound. I cannot see that there is any transmitter work at Hannington, although it looks like reduced power. Is anyone else having the same problem? I have checked to see if other nearby transmitters switched-over at the weekend (perhaps causing interference) but I don't think so.

We've a strange problem since the first Midhurst change over.
We retuned all our TV's and our Personal Video Recorder last week and all appeared OK. Wasn't until we went to record a program on BBC1 that we realised there was no BBC1/2/3 etc on the PVR (all the channels on the BBC Mux/channel 55, to get technical). We've done everything we can think of (all the suggestion on the "web" anyway) and still nothing even though when tuning it says signal strength 80% and the TV that is plugged into it tunes in all the channels (125 including the radio and data ones) including all the BBC one on "channel 55".
We've not got a response from the manufacturer, yet, but does anyone have any suggestions we could try? Here's hoping :-)

Thanks to you all for your advice. I agree that this has not been managed very well by the digital powers that be. After further investigation, I've discovered that our Philips TV is one of those deemed incompatible to the new digital signal so have purchased a scart freeview digital receiver thing that hopefully will solve the problem. Will let you know! Hope it works for the sake of our family's sanity!!

also hasving problems since switch over fron the Hannington mast have been unable to watch channel 5* 5 USA without picture freezing
i note on my box it asks me on a retune what is my primary and secondary choice my freeview guide book (hitachi) does not mention this have tried South (midhurst) and Berkshire and North Hants (hannington). so far have 175 channels. Have decided to wait till the 7 march when Midhurst transmitter goes fully digital just to see whether things improve .Could be having 2 transmitters close to each other might be causing interactive problems.
| | One problem is that the 2 transmitters are 180 degrees away from each other for us in Liphook. So if you point at Hannington, the rear 'lobe' is pointing directly at Midhurst. Aerials can receive quite a good signal from the 'wrong' direction. If you get channel numbers above 800 then this will usually be the cause. |

We’ve also been having problems since the 1st phase of the Midhurst switchover and problems before with the Hannington switchover.
On the TVs downstairs we now have all channels but on the BT Vision Box and separate TV upstairs, which is brand new, we’ve lost ITV1,CH4,CH5 despite them all being on the same aerial.
We have problems with the Hannington switchover in that ITV1 etc moved into the above 800 channel on the BT Vision box, now they are no longer in that range following the Midhurst switchover.
What is happening I think, as the editor suggests, is that some our channels are coming from Hannington and some from Midhurst. I can’t manually tune the BT Vision box so I assume that the problem will go away with the 2nd phase of the Midhurst switchover.

Bizarre! Successfully re-tuned 3 TVs on 29th Feb and now we lose ITV channels completely today on one of them.
What's going on? Call this progress!

I asked for help re: this on another thread. Everybody was very helpful, and it was easy to re-set on the menu and all is great now.

We're still having our problem but will wait until the 14th and the final switch over to see what happens.
Anyone having problems with the digital switch-over and is looking for some help then visit this site http://www.ukfree.tv/txdetail.php?a=SU912250
Has lots of information from some very knowledgeable people that could answer some of your question.s

I've retuned following the finish of the Midhurst transmitter work and ITV1 etc have returned.
So some of my channels are coming from Midhurst and some from Hannington. Mystery solved !
