Councillor Coyte
- LippyChick (29th Mar 2006 - 10:39:32)

For those that aren't aware, Councillor Simon Coyte resigned from the Parish Council on Monday evening, over the Scouts and Guides issue.

I was disappointed with many of the other Council members. I felt that the meeting could have been managed far better, and that the Chairman verged on rudeness to members of the public sometimes.

I appreciate that the issue could not be discussed, as per the Chairmans statement (pending the court case) however there was no need for the rudeness that went with this. We are the people that put these Councillors in their jobs, and stopping members of the public asking questions (not all of them regarding Scouts and Guides) was not a good representation of the Council, or the parish of Liphook itself.

Ex Councillor Coyte has my respect for the stand that he made at the meeting. I hope that other Council members will note the strong public feeling on the issue, and remember who put them in their jobs in the first place.

I couldn't agree more with lippy - the chairman arrived late in a flap, flumped down -and then got told what to say all evening by the parish clerk.
When he wasn't being told what to say he was rude and would not let some members of the public finish their questions. He even told some members to 'sit down and be quiet' - not a man in control if you ask me.

Simon Coyte also has my respect for resigning.

Perhaps now with a vacancy on the Parish Council more concerned villagers will stand for election rather than a person just get on the council because they are the only one at the time to put their name forward. Until we get more people standing for election they will just pick the only person that applies as has happen the past few time there has been a vacancy. We need to stand up and have our say.

I agree with Liphook Local, I think it would be an excellent idea to have some new blood on the PC.

I can think of an excellent candidate who would get my vote....his surname starts with an F.

Lippychick,
You obviously have strong moral values, but Iwould advise you not to invest too much indignation in the reasons for ex councillor Coyte's resignation. I'm not suggesting that he may well have an eye on some future developements, but, time will reveal all, as usual.
Personally, I would trust him with your life!

In reply to LippyChick we are not the people who chose all memebers of the parish council. It is the communities apathy when it comes to standing for positions that meant people were able to stand for the council and not go before the electorate becuse there was only one candidate standing at the time. This meant the candidate was able to join the council unellected by us the voters.

as an ex councillor i can say what a shame he has felt the need to leave he has a very good understanding of liphook and its needs, even though i may not have agreed with all his points i think it a loss. All you out there that think its easy should put your name forward and have a go

Anybody heard of any proposed planning applications pending in London Rd. (around No 10 ). Just thought I'd ask!

Locally concerned . think you should put your name and not try to make sly comments against Mr Coyte

Andrew,

For once, I agree with you. I do not think one should make personal criticism anonymously. As it happens, if you do a quick check on the planning part of the EHDC website (a better place to make the enquiry than this website) you will find nothing contentious for Simon Coyte’s property.

Incidentally, Andrew, your spelling is much better; you just need to work on your punctuation.

As you see all my comments have my name to them what ever the subject matter . We all have the right to comment and dont need to be secret about it. We are all to worried about being politicly correct and upsetting people, we should be able to call a spade a spade, you dont have to be rude .

Re: Councillor Coyte

Thank You Andy, whilst i might not agree with you on some points at least you put your name to them. poor old concerned local will have to wait some time for his unfounded roumor to come to fruitio as my plans for the multi-storey Abattoir and old peoples day centre have only just gone to my architects Fairy, Story & Myth. I do hope my former collegues find a way to make a settlement with the S&G quickly as this matter has gone on too long

Thats ok simon shame you have left , you always knew your stuff and, being a liphook lad had liphooks best interests at the top of the list. Yes i didnt agree with you on some things but would have lost to you on many points as you knew far more than me . Would like you to go back on council, but if not think i may . That will please lots of people on the S&G site. (that should make you join again) good luck what ever you do . Andrew
