Short power cuts
- JimBob (24th Nov 2025 - 09:51:43)
I’ve noticed that we are getting more grey outs again (short power cuts of less than a second). And still the occasional full power cut each few months.
In a house with perhaps too much technology reliant on electricity it resets everything and takes ages for it to all work again.
When I talk to friends in other SE England villages they are surprised at my experience.
Do you think we should petition SSEN to improve the resilience of our supply so we don’t have to pretend it’s 1974 any longer?

You have answered your own question:
"In a house with perhaps too much technology reliant on electricity "
I would suggest less of a reliance on electricity as I fear the future will hold many more power cuts.
The grid is barely managing from day to day.

Yes, I think the electricity providers need to be given a reminder that this is unacceptable.
Many years back they came to the Millennium Hall to explain the reasons for the constant interruptions.
As for being less reliant on electricity - not likely as renewable power sources generate - surprise, surprise - electricity. Gas is out of favour and the old copper wire telephone network will soon be gone meaning that all phones will be Voip and powered by - yes! - electricity! A dangerous and likely deadly decision for some in my view.

You live in Liphook dependant on which side of the Village ( Haslemere Road seems to be worst side ) - in winter lots of power cuts - even when rest of village is fine. Part of living here I am afraid.

Yes, unfortunately power cuts are fairly commonplace in this area. Quite a lot of the power lines locally are above ground, suspended between telegraph poles. That leaves them vulnerable to damage from the weather, from wildlife and from trees, or branches of trees, falling on them.
Also, of course, there has been continuous development in the area, with the subsequent increases in the population, - so the infrastructure is always trying to catch up with the demand.

It's a lot better now than it used to be, although still bad. We are Haslemere Rd side of the village in the old days you only had to fart and it went off!

@AR yes let’s all turn to charcoal stoves and candles. Down with modern technology!

I have solar panels and batteries. I can’t be fully self sufficient though, not in this weather; so I am less reliant than others for sure.
I was just wondering if we’d reached the threshold to complain en masse for inadequate service. It doesn’t seem to be the experience of others nearby, just our village. Whilst we love resetting the clocks, etc. it plays merry hell with the internet provision (yes soon to be VOIP too), security and lighting.
Or we jointly buy land for a village solar farm. Not serious!

We'd be better off volunteering for one of the "new" (old, they're the same tech as nuclear reactors on submarines) Modular Nuclear Reactors...
