Liphook Community Laundry - Editor (20th Nov 2025 08:08:28)
The Laundry is now at real risk of closure. Unless a new team of volunteers can be found the Community Support Laundry of Liphook will have to close.
The current team of eight volunteers has an average age of almost 80 years old. They cannot continue indefinitely and are earnestly seeking new volunteers to take over the running of this small but successful charity. Unless a new Team is found it will close at the end of the current financial year (5 th April 2026).
It is with great reluctance that this decision has been made. This has been a much-valued service as the following messages of thanks from clients and their families show:
Thank you for dealing with my mother's laundry. I don't know how we could manage without you, with me being so far away.
You made such a difference in supporting our dad and enabling him to remain at home as long as he did.
Thank you for dealing with my washing after my operation - I don't know what I'd have done without you.
It's lovely to have my washing so neatly washed and ironed - thank you so much.
There is a paid laundry operator who does most of the actual washing, drying and ironing two mornings a week. Washing is brought to the laundry room and then collected by clients or their carers. Volunteers collect and deliver laundry from and to clients if this is required – this takes an hour or so twice a week. A volunteer oversees the Laundry one morning a week for an hour.
There are currently about 40 clients on the books with approximately 20 to 24 using the laundry on a fairly regular basis. About 20 people use the collection and delivery service.
If you feel you might be able to help, or would like more information, please get in touch.

What a shame this facility for liphook is fantastic think it’s the only one in Hampshire. The ladies that saved it from closing years ago have done a wonderful job would be a tribute to them if it could continue. There must be a lot of retired people that have come to our village that could spare a few hours to keep it running. The lady that actually does the laundry is a gem . Down to the community to save it .

I do hope that this service survives because it's a real treasure. Most importantly it's an invaluable resource for those in need.
I for one am happy to help.

It will be such a shame if this service closes it’s a godsend for liphook people. Have been told that there is only a need for committee members to carry out the admin side and some to do the collection and delivery of some bags not doing the laundry as there is a laundress that does all that . Must be some people in our community that wants something to do to help this wonderful service.

This is indeed a shame, please can you confirm how many hours a week are required, maybe we could fundraise to pop someone on the payroll?
Seems to me a win win, perfect job whilst the kids are at school I’d assume?
Please do share and let’s look at how we can keep this valuable service running for those that need it.

J I think you should contact the chairman and committee directly with your suggestions it may be very helpful if you get it straight from source. All their contacts are on the website.

Just seen the report in the community magazine about the need for some support for running the laundry. It will be a crying shame if it has to close its such a wonderful asset for our community. There must be quite a lot of retired people in our village know as we have grown tremendously over the years and a lot of retired have moved here hopefully some will come forward to run the laundry by reading the report it’s not a great amount of time needed.
