Machine noises at night
- Corny Lea (7th Oct 2025 - 09:09:31)
For the past few weeks we keep hearing a noise like heavy drilling or motor bike idling but only at night. It is intermittent and last night started at 22.00 hours and continued until 6.30 am this morning. Has anyone else heard these same noises? We checked to see if it is any of our appliances playing up but no. There was one week when no noises were heard at all. Any suggestions? (Not inappropriate ones, please!)

To add to my previous item, I live beyond the railway bridge off Midhurst Road on that well-known estate. May these noises have any connection to railway works?

Your railway theory could be correct, there was works going on at the level crossing in Liss Forest a couple of weeks ago at night so yes, that's quite plausible. Though I don't actually know.

I'm sorry I wasn't more specific, Lorac. If there were railway works going on in Liss Forest two weeks ago, it is possible the works may have continued along the line and by now, possibly, be close to Liphook.
I do hope that makes sense to you, Lorac.

It could be a generator for lighting/traffic lights for overnight roadworks, perhaps?

Of course! It could be a genny, Jenny. (I thought it was funny anyway).
