The Flying Bull - Rake

The Flying Bull in Rake seems to be closed - does anyone know more, it used to be a great pub when Ian and Sarah ran it .....

It is regretted that Government financial pressures on the entertainment sector has resulted in a number of closures of licenced premises in the area.

As well as the Flying Bull, we learn that the Wheatsheaf in Grayswood and the Dog and Pheasant in Brook have also closed their doors in recent weeks.

Sign of the time we're in.
Who can afford to visit a pub for a pint anymore, it's become too expensive,as for the food prices just incredibly expensive.

The working man has been priced out and if wanting a pint off to the supermarket to get some in.
The pub game has been on its knees for years with all the overheads that they have to endure.
To survive this they need to be in a high foot fall area and the ones mentioned unfortunately aren't.

Good old Labour, well at least Rayners gone leaving Starmer just arranging deck chairs on the sinking ship who voted these imbeciles in anyway, the silent majority who are quickly swapping side no doubt.

Thank you Paul for the information.

Perhaps someone will take it on.

My local, The Crown Inn - Arford , has just won a Pub of the Year contest organized by our local MP Greg Stafford , open to all the Pubs in his constituency. It is run and managed by locals !

That’s a shame. Have had good meals there. Pleasant people running it. And yet The Anchor which is a disgrace remains . Such a shame, as used to be good , and has so much potential

Well done to the Crown in Arford I know Sandi Toskvig gave it a glowing report in the Guardian. I have not been into the Crown for many years when I lived fairly close. My claim to fame was being barred by Colin the Landlord for wanting an orange juice to drink instead of beer! It was quite amusing he was a real character.

Yes , as the OP I would add Colin could be quite abrasive -

But his wife Jane was a lovely lady -

They were enjoyable times ...

Their youngest son has done very well.

Good to know, we have a room booked here for a wedding in October and have heard nothing!!!

As the original poster I called by for lunch only to find it apparently closed and not looking very happy.

Checked on the website which says nothing - the only clue is you can't book a table or accommodation - very rude of them not to let you know, but the landlord was rude which probably has led it's demise.

Hope you find an alternative.

We believe it has closed due to the death of the landlady. Her husband found it too hard to cope on his own.
