Roundabout vandalism - Caroline (26th Aug 2025 - 08:31:01) As a white British citizen I was angry, disgusted and disappointed to see someone has taken time to actually paint a St. George’s Cross on Liphook roundabout. It’s vandalism. Simple as. It’s not pride in our country. It’s racism. It’s reminiscent of the BNP. If you support this and have ever moaned about the council not collecting your rubbish, or about the verges which need cutting, or about the state of the roads but you are quite happy to spend council money on displaying flags or repainting roundabouts then you need your head read. Have reported this graffiti this morning. I shall also be removing any St. George’s flags I see displayed in public places around the village. For the non white residents of Liphook, please be assured that the views of some people on here do not represent us all. Pathetic.

Painting crosses doesn’t make you patriotic and if you really have got a bee in your bonnet, please go and paint this kind of stuff on your own house because it means extra money (taxpayers' money) now has to be spent by the council to remove your graffiti instead of being used for something more worthwhile like local hospitals. If you really want to make a positive contribution to your local community, please consider volunteering for a charity or assisting your neighbours to foster new and supportive friendship groups. I think it’s great to love your country but England isn’t better than any other place in the world. Every country has its positives and negatives but aren’t all of us lucky that we live in a peaceful country and are not enduring what the poor people in Gaza and Ukraine are having to go through right now.

This is England, rural with a National Park on our doorstep and many National Trust areas along with an English speaking community, have you noticed any of these... Come to England adopt the rules of our country, but only come legally. No its not racist are you bonkers. UK left the EU to close our borders amongst others and we are entitled to enjoy England especially when we're tax payers and not scrounging around illegally.

It costs money, taxpayers' money, to remove it and it makes the village look untidy. Wanting to have graffiti removed has nothing to do with being a liberal or Brexit.

Susie’s post was spot on and like her I support immigration providing it is legal, controlled and sustainable which, at the moment, it is not. Billions of pounds of taxpayer’s money is being spent of housing immigrants entering this country illegally on the premise that they are asylum seekers. The vast majority are not – they are economic migrants. Look at the number of young men on the boats – they are not asylum seekers. When you are attacking your fellow citizens who want to preserve our identity take a moment to remember the grooming gangs who had nothing but contempt for white British girls hardly more than children. Under our present law immigrants entering illegally have to be processed before they can be deported and this takes time and money. We should certainly leave the ECHR and our laws should state that anyone entering this country illegally should be deported immediately. There are plenty of legal routes. I personally have no problem with the St George Flag even if St George was Turkish. We put up with many other flags in this country and British people are very tolerant about this. Tolerance however only goes so far and when you see towns and villages completely losing their ancestral identity you can understand some people’s reactions. I do not condone violence of any sort but when people feel fear or under threat they react accordingly. It doesn’t make that right, but it is understandable. I sometimes feel that the British people have to apologise for being British particularly if they are white British. The pendulum has swung too far the other way. Remember “Black Lives Matter”. All I would say to you is that is “All Lives Matter.”

Firstly, I'm a legal immigrant to the UK as I moved here 30 years ago. I love the UK, I love Liphook, I've built a company here and I pay all my taxes (probably too many!). Secondly, I fit into the category Caroline is addressing. And Caroline I disagree - I WANT assurance that Liphook is represented by pride in the British flag, and patriotism. Be proud of this beautiful country, its traditions, its flag and its people.

Two reasons firstly because people have an overwhelming need to be a part of something and jump on any bandwagon. Secondly to intimidate people they believe should not be here.

Think there’s one on the pole at the millennium hall but couldn’t see it because of the overgrown trees. Perhaps if they put crosses on all the roundabouts drivers would drive around them. Other countries fly their flags all over the place so WHY shouldn’t we . Just try telling the French they can't fly their flags all flags there would be a riot. This country needs to stand up for its self stop being so nimby about our history and the way we run OUR country. Anyone coming here should abide by our laws and traditions.

We should be no less proud to fly it as the Welsh, Scottish, Ukrainian and Palestinians do with theirs. The ruling class is increasingly anti-patriotic, whilst making big fuss about sovereignty of Ukraine and Palestine or whoever else is the flavour of the month. Borders and nationality are all very good for others but are being abandoned or denied when it comes to us. We should fly the flags to signal we are still more patriotic than the ruling class are, and more than they'd like us to be. We need to fly the flags for future generations to observe and learn patriotism. We need to fly the flags that unify us locally (UK, England, Hampshire. Liphook). We must not fly the flags that divide us and are concerned with non-local issues, such as identity politics (e.g. the Alphabet people flags) or foreign conflicts. We should use our flag to flag out what is wrong, should be dealt with by the authorities but is not (e.g. potholes).

Re: Roundabout vandalism - Scott (26th Aug 2025 - 19:56:38) Personally, I am a patriot, I really enjoy living in Liphook. I love being an Englishman and being part of the United Kingdom. For all of its mixed cultural identity and history dating back hundreds/thousands of years. But someone coming out probably in the middle of the night to paint a tatty, unstraight red cross on a white circle in the middle of town is a low level attempt to stir up grievances and ill feeling. There are much better ways of getting a point across if you have the time or inclination. Still, its there, but not in my name or with my backing. It looks rubbish, 🤞fingers crossed its gone soon. Now the roundabout is defaced do we no longer have to give way to the right🤔🤣
