How much risk in our area to Wild fires and Grass fires.
- paul (11th Jul 2025  15:53:26)

Hi,

Is Liphook and surrounding area's safe from Fire locally, during this heatwave?

I seem remember the local Fire Brigade, working shifts 24/7 of local lands before.

Good luck to everyone involved, you are much appreciated.

40% of wildfires are started deliberately - arson.

The remaining ~60% are started accidentally or negligently (discarded BBQs, cigarettes, etc).

Humans, eh!

No risk.
Unless the idiots start behaving badly.

I don't remember any major heath or grassland fires round here not even in 1976. Good reason to keep verges cut but that doesn't appear to be politically correct round here.

Frensham Ponds used to suffer from fires back in the day.
Verges were cut as people had a habit of throwing their cigarette butts out the window. Not many people smoke now.

There was a fire yesterday(12th), at Hankley Common, 16 fire engines on site, approximately 8 hectares. In May 2020 there was a major fire that occurred on Thursley Common, went on for 4 days, destroying habitats & wildlife.

As a motorist, AF, I see people chucking fags out of cars every day. As a rail user you would not notice. (By "fag" I mean cigarettes, don't want to offend they gay/ lesbian / not sure community).

A huge fire broke out yesterday at Hankley Common, Thursley. 8 Hectares approximately. I'm not sure but I still don't think its under control.

Have a lovely bright Sunday Liphookians and don't forget your suncream.

Big fire on Chapel Common recently. Any berk starting a fire in woods or on heath is likely to end badlyi
