Water leak Haslemere Rd
- C (6th Jul 2025  17:53:59)

Hi, has anyone reported the leak down Haslemere Road? Was surprised that it’ not yet been rectified.

Yes, my mum reported it at least a week or more ago. She has also chased the water board several times. The management company of the houses has also contacted them.

Glad to see it was sorted today - sort of!!
At least they have made a start. Now they need to fix the leak on London Road at the end of Tower Road.

Amazing that this water leak was suppurating into the London Road, right opposite the site that South East Water was repairing on the opposite side of the road of the road last week

So, do we think that they will repair this before they bother to remove the Road Closed signs x 2 in the Tower Road.

Or do we wait for the 'Hosepipe Ban' which will surely follow.

Have to say, find it very frustrating and hypocritical that I have received several emails from Southeast Water asking me to curb my water use yet two leaks in Liphook over the last couple of weeks have been left for ages before being fixed...

Hi,
South East Water Company are leaking 101.4 million litres per day, across their area, including Liphook.
That is equivalent, of 40 Olympic size swimming pools of water each 24 hours.
Sending email asking us to "reduce usage now!". Sounds like after the horse has bolted the barn door...

Leaks happen. Things break. Nothing if perfect and often companies have to wait for permission from the Highways Authorities and local councils to close the roads and are not allowed to fix lesser leaks until they have that permission.

It is all our responsibility to save water in the drier summer months. It isn’t unlimited and everyone’s used hugely increase in this sort of weather.

Stop expecting everything to be perfect all the time, it’s an awful thing that people nowadays seem to expect.

Sarah that would be fine if we didn't pay tax and utilities were provided free.

But we are paying - heavily - for poor services so people have a right to vent and complain.

Paul2,

Water has to be collected, boreholes are drilled, water has to be treated, mains laid and repaired. Therefore we have to pay. I am amazed how many people complain about that fact that for almost 100% of the year we have unlimited fresh, clean, safe water to drink and pretty much do as we please with, but people are still unhappy. Water can be free, you are welcome to collect your own in a pond or bucket or water trough or help yourself from the river, but if you want it to be absolutely safe we have to pay someone to do it for us. And sometimes that isn’t perfect because the system is massive, things break and have to be repaired and permission has to be granted. Paying taxes doesn’t mean things are always perfect and immediately fixed and the endless moaning of people about water supply which is normally pretty much perfect and endless (how lucky are we) really irritates me. Feel free to moan away, but next time you turn on the tap/shower/hose/dishwasher/washing machine, insider how inconvenienced you are by a small occasionall road leak that will get fixed. And remember, the water from the leak doesn’t disappear, it isn’t wasted, it does down the drains/into the ground and ultimately back into the system. Everyone moans about everything nowadays, even when things work pretty well.

Paul 2 - please could you fully explain what poor services you have personally had to do with your water supply this year? Is your water running out or dirty. Has it made you ill? Have you had to regularly ration your use? Just curious to know, beyond perhaps a brief interruption due to a burst main etc, what issues you have had that mean you are so upset by the water company? (Remembering that our local water company are drinking water only and do not have anything to do with sewage).

Well said Sarah. We are becoming a nation of moaners usually behind a keyboard.
